No tool is going to do that for your. There is a bit of expertise you will need to have to confirm your cat is failing.

Usually looking at live data is going to be what you want to do here. First engine and cat need to be at full operating temp. You need to ensure your pre-cat sensor is switching from rich to clean, back and fourth constantly. This can be tricky since data you ready from OBDII is technically already processed and isn't true "real time" data. Anyway, after you confirm the pre cat O2 sensor is working you will need to look at the post cat sensor. The post cat sensor should be fairly steady, and occasional lean or rich even is ok, but it should stabilize pretty quickly. If you see constant switching (low to high that follows the precat O2) then its highly likely your Cat is bad and needs to be replaced.

Keep in mind that Catalytic converters WILL get poisoned by engines that are misfiring and essentially dummping raw fuel into the cat, also oil consuption or coolant consumption will also ruin your cats pretty quickly. So if your car suffers from misfires or consumes oil you will need should address it ASAP or your new cat will quickly fail too.

Cats should last hundreds of thousands of miles... My 06 BMW 330i that has 250K miles just started with symptoms of a bat cat, but that car has consumed oil its entire life due to a poorly designed PCV system that BMW completely redesigned for following years of the 3 series. 2015 definitely seems like premature failure of the cat unless you have a ton of miles (think 200k-300K+)

edit: I forgot to mention that sometimes people have had success with products like "CataClean" to get their cats back up to a more functional state.

Only 99 reviews on Amazon. Half of the most recent reviews are 1-2 stars saying this product is garbage. About half of the remaining are "vine customer review for free product". Hard pass.

This can't do Immobilizer Reset, correct? Looking for one that can program new key fobs for a Toyota Prius. Since this has Bidirectional abilities and Bluetooth, is there any way to use this dongle with another app to do it? Really great price if it can somehow, but doesn't look like it.
Key fob and immobilizer programming usually only works in high end options. I bought a $600+ Autel that has an immobilizer menu... That leads to a web page with manual instructions, which don't work for all makes and models.

Be very careful plunking down substantial money for that.

The advantage of bi directional functions is that you eliminate the physical button/components as the failure point.

For example, the locks don't lock when you hit the button, is it the button, the module (what every calls a computer), the wires, etc... well the Bi-directional tool will allow you to trigger the lock mechanism thru the computer without the button or button's wiring. If it works you know to look at the button or the wiring from the button, if it doesn't work you look at the module.

There are TONS of useful features for the bi-directional support. In fact I would almost go as far as saying that tools that aren't bi-directional are not really worth purchasing.... ALMOST....
What you're saying needs a huge asterisk beside it:

This feature isn't going to work for every car.

Do your research into what works and what doesn't for your specific model, as you might end up limited to the same number of features you'd find on a generic $10 adapter.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize I said this function worked on EVERY CAR... or wait I didn't... It was just an example of what bi-directional support enables.

Maybe you need an asterisk next to you for even suggesting a $10 tool can do what a properly designed bi-directional tool can do. Even doing a full system scan is an impossibility for cheap tools. Many times you are lucky to even get a cheap tool to even read a TCM codes much less any other module codes.
Well you also didn't say that it's not something that's commonplace, even among the newest Canbus systems.

And what I clarified was that a bi-directional tool is going to be just as good as a $10 Bluetooth module if your car doesn't support any of the features the more expensive scan tool provides.

This isn't even the cheapest bi-directional scanner on the market, so it's clearly about what the ECU allows versus what the tool costs.

I have a 2015 prius. Would this pinpoint my error code p0420? From my research and tried new O2 sensor, I'm pretty sure it's the cat. But, I want to be certain.
Put a spark plug fowler on the o2 sensor it will read less c02 thanks to the spacing and smaller hole plus u don't gotta buy a new cat

Not great for subarus apparently from reviews
I think it is model- and year-specific, though, as only some people on Amazon have issues. The model year is not always clear for SAS resets, but it is for CVT relearns. Then someone says worked on 2015 Forrester. Also see this so I think this is user and model dependent. I wish there was a list somewhere of support.

"My test connection to my 2025 Subaru Forester went fine, it was able to poll the subsystem topology, and from there I could go into more detailed diagnostic information or grab live data. I was impressed with all the things it found on my Subaru to get data on, even the EyeSight (navigation helper) system. About the only hiccup was it would only let me set vehicle years up to 2022, but after choosing 2022 it appeared to work fine. It even found an air conditioning fault code I didn't know I had."

Man, this is tempting but the lack of reviews is rather dubious. Only 4 reviews for the iOS app in 4 years? Is the android app better reviewed?

If I'm correct this is the same as the xtool a30m. Good price given the features. In for one.
Yes, I think it is. Same interface and form factor. Gearwrench doesn't have a "vehicle coverage" menu on their website for their scan tool, but Xtool does, so you can just use there's. https://www.xtoolglobal.com/pages...e-coverage

I bought the Gearwrench before the holidays for $125 because I wanted something that could do a CVT relearn on my 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. It works just fine for that and many others things, albeit a bit slow. For the average DIY'er it's a great scan tool to have.

Is this better than dropping $50 per car for OBD Jscan (I have a Jeep)?

Edit: I also have a Bluedriver (meh) and a cheaper adapter that I believe works with OBD Jscan, or seemed to on my old Jeep.

LOL, that was going to be my suggestion. As long as you did an anti toilet with a small hole drilled into it (if it didn't have one there at all), then your secondary O2 sensor could be shot. Usually that spark plug anit-fouler works even when there's no cat at all. Also, did you try banging and beating on your cat, any rattling in there?
