SDers don't actually purchase Intuit products, right? Evil Intuit who lobbies so hard to make sure normal Americans don't know they can file for free? Evil Intuit who offers their like products at 2-3x the price of HRBlock's?

Most of us already got it when it was $45 with the $10 gift card

That said, I'm seeing a lot more people are getting used to using FreeTaxUSA for their free service. Free for federal, $15 for state.

They offer this for free if you file via app until Feb 28 if you didn't use them last year. That is free for both federal and state, just did it today. They will try to upsell you every step of the way but eventually will let you do it for free

I used Free TaxUSA today. It works well, and it was only $15 out of pocket (for the state return). Efficient and cheap!!

A reminder that if you did NOT use TurboTax last year, you can use the mobile version for free until Feb 28

There are lots of limitations to this offer.

Reluctantly buying this from the intuit duopoly just because I have some stuff that's a bit too complex for free filing.

Will it ever go back to $45 before this year's filing date?

You have to claim the offer in the app, but then you can switch to a computer browser. As I went through the process, it upgraded me to premium and included two states plus efile for all 3 returns. Then, at check out, I switched back to the app to get the free offer. And back to the computer to review and file.

The free offer also works if you used TurboTax download last year, because the online system does not recognize you as a current customer.

The word (Reddit, etc) is FreeTaxUSA can handle any complexity
