Although, I suppose that you could just buy a decent extension cord or power strip and have the best of both worlds. Is that what a lot of people do?

Scroll down to the "charging guide" - Anker is usually pretty good about how power is distributed to each port - but in this guide they only show the max power to all ports
When charging my laptop, if it's fully drained, I will charge the laptop only. I will only add other devices after the laptop is fully charged.
This charger works well when used that way.
