Their prices on almost anything regularly beat out other retailers for the same brand/model. Amazon provides competition, but even Amazon outside of a sales promo can often get beat by Costco. They also have their Kirkland brand, which many of those products are higher quality than even name brand products. Sure, Ican buy Scott's crappy toilet paper from Walgreens or Dollar General cheaper, but I'm also getting a really lousy product. And with DG, a really terrible customer experience.

The only time you might be spending too much money are on premium brands and imports, where the other supermarkets are unlikely to sell a comparable product. That I can see as a valid argument, but also many people, including myself, don't mind spending a bit more for quality organics, imported Asian/European products, or fresh kitchen and bakery products that taste way better than the crap you'd find at Wal-Mart.
I used to work for Costco so I just want to give a bit of my input here .
First all off all these discounts are manufacturer rebates .( Costco only mark down clearance items ). 99% items at Costco have mark up averaging 13% 10-15% mostly except for greenmade products.
The prices you see are manufacturer cost*1.13, so if you see price increased it's due to manufacturer cost , not Costco increasing their % profit margin.
PS: I got fired at Costco
FWIW, using the price match after purchase at non-sale prices has been good to me. For example, I needed Cascade. I ordered it last week. On 3/5 it will be on sale for $3 off. I'll apply for price match online and get it. Viva Costco!

Another boring Costco "sale", mostly all the same stuff that goes on sale every 2-3 months.

as a life long shopper of sams, costco, shoprite and "walgreen/cvs deals" i can tell you this:

You CAN spend less at the supermarkets through a combination of buying sale items and/or couponing properly

You GET a better deal at sams/costco on a per cost basis, but you will always spend more for the quantity you get. That's great if you use it all before it goes bad, but not so great if you don't need the quantity.

I could buy stuff at the supermarket and spend significantly less each week and have less waste on many items, but id have to buy sale items or deal with coupons.

That being said, I still find Sams club is better for everyday items and food, but Costco is better for higher end products, clothing and premium products.

I don't need to spend $6 for seedless cucumbers at costco when they are $2.96 at sams club.

Costco has made almost every item like minimum $10 products and many items are actually not a great deal. Add in the fact I can't scan and go and have to show 50 thousand people my card makes it annoying.

Unfortunately, while everyone wants to tout about how good costco treats its employees and pays them well, that cost just comes back to you the consumer. Eventually all people will make decisions with their wallet - maybe not today, but eventually. Only takes one recession for a place like costco to suddenly be in the negative because people go to the place that is cheaper when they have no job or money.
Except if you live in a Publix dominated market like Florida. Publix sucks, even with sales. There non-sale prices are so ridiculous . Even in NYC I was able to shop the sales and save money but not in SoFlo. Thats why even as a single person I prefer Costco and Aldi

Yes. I know that. But it doesn't work for things that go out of stock when you want to do that.

I agree. When i visited FL, i was shocked to see grocery prices and realized that might be why red states cry about inflation more than others
Citrus was easily 20% more expensive in FL than northeast. And tropical fruit prices were comical to my expectation.
I did like some variety in products that are a bit tropical. Like banana chips, guava stuff etc.

Crap, didnt realize February ended yesterday. I wanted to buy something
I wish they would just do it for the entire month but I think they like that gap week to make more money without sales

Finally Premeir Protein on sale. Its been ages, have had to trek to BJs or Sams for it. Though I prefer Fairlife
Try Nurri ( only sold at Costco) way better than the other two

Can anyone comment on the chef man air fryer? Looking to replace the $40 gourmia because the grate seems impossible to keep clean
You have the drawer Gourmia? I love that thing and find all pieces easy to clean. Use a nylon brush and get it a little hot. Everything just comes right off
