I have the all clad set from costco for $550 but I would get these sale price $150 sets if I could do it over again and save $400. I got the all clad because I thought my bad cooking was due to cheap pans lol. Turns out you need to preheat the stainless steel pans to about 375-450F or until water droplets bead up and then add a decent amount of oil before cooking/searing. Every stove is different so get a $5 surface temp thermometer to get a feel for the temperature range for each dial setting. This taught me my stove has a 300F variance between the 4 and 5 dial numbers out of 9 ticks. If I was under 4 my food was raw and above 5 it burnt to a crisp. I was adding oil, turning up the heat to an unknown temp and then adding the meat and it would either burn or take so long and over cook. After learning this I went to try it on my old cheap stainless pans and cooked just as well as the all clad. Only thing missing from the set is an 8qt stock pot which to me is a bummer but if you don't make large batches of stuff then it's not needed.
If you prefer lips on your pots and pans for easy pouring of liquids without spillage, I would recommend Henkels. I have tried both of these sets and returned the calphalon one.
A rule of thumb, for Henkels products, you need to pick the products with a two-figure logo. At least this is true for its cutlery products. Products with a single-figure logo are its lower quality product lines.

For its cutlery products, products with a two-figure logo are manufactured in Germany and a single-figure logo are manufactured in either Spain or China.

Calphalon used to be quality. Don't know how it can be for this price. I've had all clad for 10 years of heavy use and they are like new. Probably the only set of pans I'll need in my lifetime, and I'm only 34. Before all clad I would buy cheap pans only to have them warp or the handle come loose. Even higher end brands like ScanPan warped and had a loose handle.

There are heavy duty and are very heavy, I had mine for 4 years now. Don't forget to use heavy duty easy off to remove all that burned oil or grease.

I only cook with olive oil or coconut oil below the smoke point. No burned on grease on my pans.

A couple of days ago, I was about to make a purchase, but I held off on doing so based on a comment that mentioned an upcoming deal. My patience was rewarded, and I'm glad I waited.

Thanks for sharing this. I think I need a surface temp thermometer. One of my electric stoves is kind of messed up; it burns at anything greater than 1...

The two figure logo branding is called Zwilling, Its from the same founder but is a luxury brand, You would pay in premium for superior quality

Ya I got the cuisinart surface thermometer. It's like $10 now on Amazon. I knew I needed it because I watched a gordon ramsey steak youtube vid and he said 'put your burner as high as possible and then add oil' so I did and the oil instantly turned to smoke and then fire. That made me realize my electric glass stove should never be on high to cook lol. Only time I do is boiling water. I put the surface thermometer on the pan on each setting for 10 minutes to get a feel for each settings temp 1-9 and when I got to a little over 5 the thermometer was already hitting 550F. So I stopped testing the temp at 5 because that's already getting pretty hot and thats like the half way point of my stove dial. Makes sense the oil caught fire when I had it at 9 lol. Never trust youtube cooking experts! If yours is burning at 1 then you might have a broken switch or dial or something but the surface thermometer would help you test maybe.

Very important to match the burner size to the pan size as well. Don't put a small sauce pan on a power burner. Less food in the pan also requires less energy to heat, so you really need to watch for the oil shine and avoid any smoke. Also try to avoid putting cold food into the hot pan as it will cool the pan and make food stick, as well as cook it unevenly.

They're not as scratch resistant as advertised (I've also seen it demonstrated that their nonstick isn't as good as advertised either, even before it inevitably gets messed up).

It seems like everyone I see on YT has a hex clad set. I ended up going with a straight stainless steel set from all-clad. It can be a pain to clean sometimes but soaking it in barkeeper's friend seems to work well.
