The primary use case I see for this is between a DVR in a secured location and a multi-camera monitor in a location where it can be constantly watched. If it works well in a particular use case, this is a pretty cool little piece of tech for $15. With the fiber optic internals I'd definitely be more careful not to bend it too sharply during installation.
It's said it's fiber optic my guess is there's a chip/emitter inside that convert the electrical signal to optical signal like toslink/spdif then another sensor chip translate it back

I can't imagine a cable that long and thin would work. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks for pointing that out, I can see how it wouldn't require as much shielding then. I've tried 100' HDMI cables years ago with not much luck. At the price, I might pick this up just in case I run into another application for it.

Ive used hdmi to fiber to hdmi before over long runs but it has a box on each end that has power; made by startech. How has the tech changed so that's no longer necessary

Looks like the fiber optic conversion has been downsized to fit in the plug housings and is powered on either side by the HDMI source and monitor, or possibly powered on both sides by the source and associated copper conductors. I did notice that the plugs are directionally marked, one side for source and the other side for monitor.

I currently use a FiberOptic Cable for my 4K HDR+ Connection on a 50ft cable by Ruipro (One Directional, Fiber usually Is) connected to Samsung WQ-OLED, and for the the first year using it with the attached power HDMI USB adapter, found out after the 1st year that if I'm not pushing past 4K 60, I didn't need the 5W Boost on the USB Power adapter. In my case I was not pushing the bandwidth limit of the cable (8K HDR+) so I was fine.

This is a passive cable at only 25ft, in 'Real World' experience this seems fine think of this passive cable same way you would think of a similar passive thunderbolt cable, 25ft Fiber vs 25ft Copper is not long and (bandwidth is low) IMHO is just preference unless specific install has a requirement. If it's just price at $14.99 it's enough of a try it out and see.

My 2cents - Good luck

*Hope some of this help, just woke up, just trying to help , take care.

Firstly, in the real (non-commercial) world, a 150 ft. HDMI cable is ridiculous (hence perhaps the blowout price)! Secondly, although I don't have the time nor patience to scrutinize the reviews, the first few (positive) reviews shown on Woot are for shorter cables. This is definitely a crapshoot, but if you have $15 extra bucks, the risk is minimal. It just seems pointless to use a 150 ft. cable for most (if not all) applications! My two cents.😁

I may use with a splitter to sync signal so my TVs across the house aren't a few seconds apart streaming sports. Always sucks when someone in another room reacts before you see a play is over.

I would possibly use this as an alternative to vm for working in a second location in the house. I find the vm latency annoying and I even switched to ethernet cable. When I wfh it's vm inside another vm. If I do separate vm sessions for some reason the work vm freaks out and I have to reboot it. So this could work if I could pair it with a mouse/keyboard solution.

I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say 'this is a passive cable at only 25ft' but any cable that goes from a copper HDMI connection to fiber optic and back (of any length) is not passive by definition. Going from copper to fiber requires powered electronic circuitry, it is not a passive operation.

An active cable contains electronics that boost the signal, allowing it to transmit data over longer distances without degradation. A passive cable, on the other hand, does not contain any electronic components and relies on the devices at either end to maintain signal quality, typically over the shorter distances.

Active vs Passive
