More like Gopro killed themselves. They've had overheating issues since forever while DJI somehow solved them by the Action 3.

I was deciding between the Hero 13 and the Action 3, and Gopro has multiple issues (sometimes just doesn't record) while DJI just works
GOPRO's are still great for what they do. It's just that now they have some healthy competition.
IMHO they still trade blows on cutting edge features and GoPro has still more loyal customers, but DJI is probably the clear winner in reliability.

Does this also need the DJI app. Most DJI apps are now not available on the app stores.

Is it their latest version?

So there's a 5 and it's OLED.

Someone tell me why I should wait for a similar deal on the upgraded model, so I don't buy this… 🤣

Doesn't look like I can get a clean HDMI output from this.

Anyway around DJI Mimo app to stream directly to Facebook or another RTMP destination.

Just wanted to say that I thought I got a deal on the dji action 5 pro from Amazon Resale the other day. Was $260 after tax. It came and was sealed in original box. I opened it and someone had repackaged the 4 in the 5 pro box and completely resealed it all. Devastating. 😭

The Action 5 Pro sadly did not deliver. They released it within a very short span after the 4 and the overwhelming reviews complained about more bitrate compression and over-processed looking image. Watch the 5 Pro vs 4 comparison by YouTuber called Patched Bandit.
Get the 4 and the peace of mind that you saved some bucks without sacrificing image.

more of, the action camera fad is over.
Like compact cameras. Only people that really want or need one get it now.

I've been a pretty loyal GoPro user since hero 3 black. I'll upgrade every few years or so. The $50 /year subscription for a no questions asked replacement has saved me at least $800 when it comes to replacing cameras I've broken. I'm impressed with Insta360 and DJI, but like early adopting a mobile OS platform I'm pretty invested in the ecosystem and I've got no good reason to switch. My primary use case is action sports (hence all the broken cameras getting replaced) to generate personal content, so they've been well worth it for me.

In preparation for a three week trip to Italy I bought a GoPro Hero 8, that thing couldn't record for 5 minutes without overheating and shutting down. GoPro did nothing to help me, returned it and bought the DJI Osmo Action 3. Tons of great footage, if you use it like I do you can get overheat warnings but only after recording in the sun for a very long time (hours). I have no complaints.

I've since taken it on all our vacations, I like to use a suction mount and stick it to the windshield and record as we drive the roads where we vacation. I end up with a lot of footage which is admittedly mostly boring but it's just GB's who cares, I like looking back especially on drives we took around Hawaii, Sedona, The Grand Canyon, Tuscany etc.. The motion stabilization is excellent, the horizon stays flat and you can see the car moving and vibrating on crappy Kauai roads in my videos for example. Highly recommended.

I still enjoy our Hero 7 Black, but looking at underwater videos of an Action 5 vs GoPro 13, the difference in quality is obvious, I think cause the sensor is so much bigger.

And up to the Hero 10 it was 1/2.3", almost 1/4 the size of this Action 4.

Thanks, I watched his video, and while I didn't agree with his assessment that the old one looks better, he does make it obvious that the Action 5 Pro seems to be just processing the image differently with a more HDR look. I think I prefer the new one though based on his video, since I'm not likely to process the video myself.

But I watched Otto Julian's review and observed this:

The Super Night Mode on Action 5 Pro looks much better for night scenes than Action 4.

Action Pro 5 has 47 GB of internal memory, 4 has nothing. That's a big plus. And 50% better battery life.

For snorkelers/divers the 5 Pro has 20 vs 18m depth, displays depth and altitude.

Action 4 overheated at 4K 60 fps on his test, and Action 5 Pro did not.
