Just ordered one, my existing little apc one was causing my desktop to crash anytime it called for more power for some reason, so we'll try this one out. That one did last a while though and I got a few more years out of it after swapping the battery, so I can't be too upset

Just got one for around $52 shipped and paid via Paypal; thanks OP.

Looking to replace an APC BE425M [amazon.com] that I currently use to backup power for my NVR, modems, and 10 external drives. I got the BE425M for $25 a few years back; really regret that I didn't get more, but I wasn't too sure of the merchant or if the deal would be honored.

Speaking of cheap UPS units, at $50 I would consider these disposable as the costs of battery replacement would negate the original bargain, ergo wouldn't make much financial sense. Unless someone would care to correct and enlighten me, of course...

According to this Amazon review [amazon.com] you can silence the beep when it's on battery power mode.

Can't help you with Linux though as I just plan to battery backup my NVR, modems and my half ars NAS setup... (10 external hard drives connected to a Windows 10 Pro PC running a Plex Media Server on 24/7 with various Docker Containers. Soularr and Bitmagent are Yarrrrrrtastic!!! laugh out loud)

I'm gonna do some very arbitrary math. This has a 12v 7 amp-hour battery, so roughly 84 watt hours. Figure it's not 100% efficient so you maybe get 64 actual watt hours. Say a monitor is 25 watts and an office PC is 50 watts (again I'm making up numbers) you'd get 45 mins or so.

edit: looks like my calculations may be a little off. The manual says 1.5 mins runtime at 100% capacity (500 watts) and 50 mins at 10% capacity (50 watts).

More than enough time to notice the power is out so you can save and properly shut down your PC. I wouldn't run my PC on a UPS longer than needed.

Vertiv is part of the Emerson/Liebert family, we use their enterprise products throughout our company, I cannot speak to the more residential side of things.

I find the best use for these smaller UPS units is for low-draw devices. I use these to keep routers and network hubs up for an hour or more during outages.
