Looking to replace an APC BE425M [amazon.com] that I currently use to backup power for my NVR, modems, and 10 external drives. I got the BE425M for $25 a few years back; really regret that I didn't get more, but I wasn't too sure of the merchant or if the deal would be honored.
Speaking of cheap UPS units, at $50 I would consider these disposable as the costs of battery replacement would negate the original bargain, ergo wouldn't make much financial sense. Unless someone would care to correct and enlighten me, of course...
Can someone help educate me - how much time do you have once power shuts off to shut things down?
Can't help you with Linux though as I just plan to battery backup my NVR, modems and my half ars NAS setup... (10 external hard drives connected to a Windows 10 Pro PC running a Plex Media Server on 24/7 with various Docker Containers. Soularr and Bitmagent are Yarrrrrrtastic!!!

edit: looks like my calculations may be a little off. The manual says 1.5 mins runtime at 100% capacity (500 watts) and 50 mins at 10% capacity (50 watts).
