Now the negatives. The doc is very skimpy. When the system starts it shows a split screen and reverts to iPhone view after a few secs. There is a small grey circle onscreen that takes you back to Home Screen. Waze always starts on my phone. Display is decent during daytime but very bright at night (no auto dimming). Lowering the brightness at night means you will start with a dim screen next morning. The clock doesn't store the right time when you turn off the system. This isn't a problem with the iPhone CarPlay which shows iPhone time but will be showing the wrong time with video recordings which is bad for use as accident evidence. It does block the display somewhat. There is no on/off switch to turn off the system when you dont want to be distracted (you will need to yank out the power cord. Waze is always on in the background even when i turn it off on my phone, it comes back.
The box says its a pitiful 1024x600.
I am disgusted from that alone and am reluctant to even open the box. I hate these games.
Can you elaborate more on how it is illegal in California? I plan to install one in my parents' car in Los Angeles
If it's a large SUV, it might be fine. In small cars, this device is large enough to get you a ticket.
- the device has hidden features the lack of which I and other users have griped about. These are nowhere to be found in the manual.
- it DOES have an On/OFF switch along the top frame
- the front camera can be raised to avoid the shadow caused by the suction cup
The other issue I had complained about was that the system didn't save the correct time and, therefore, my video images will not be helpful if I needed to use them for insurance. Well, they fixed it with a firmware update in Vov-2024 (I had the older Au firmware). I contacted their support and they first emailed me a firmware that wouldn't install. Then they emailed me a 2nd firmware that bricked my device. The support person was very polite and prompt and admitted that their engineers had sent her the wrong firmware. Within three days they sent me a new device and that's working perfectly
