Oh boy, not this again.

They compensate for the more restrictive filter material by using pleats. The lower MERV filters are flatter. More surface area means more paths for the air to go through. It's not exactly the same, but it's not gonna kill your fan unless you don't replace it when it's clogged.
Never have I seen the SD experience quite described so clearly

Super cheap for MERV 13. Seems to be a legit brand, though not the best.

Do not buy these if you're system wasn't designed for high Merv filters… you really only need 5-6 if you have older equipment. Better air flow and machine doesn't have to work as hard.

lol. I'm going with the first comment. Not all merv13 filters have way more pleats like the filtrete ones. If your system is older, I would go with merv 8 or lower or filtrete brand merv 13.

Project Farm on YouTube did a review on all of these filters and a good quality 3M or Honeywell does a better job of filtration along with less strain on the HVAC system. Most of the cheaper ones only do a great job of putting a lower strain on the HVAC system. Not much in terms of particle filtration.

Believe the first, I had a 2018 unit put a brand new Merv 13; I started to get icing. Thought it was my unit. Had a bunch of techs come in they all said replace the unit. One finally said put a Merv 8 that one is too restrictive. I did and boom. Worked fine, no icing. I'm still using the same HVAC system now. Yes, I think newer blowers can handle merv13+ no issues but I'm sure it still puts some level of restriction on the airflow meaning the unit will have to work more if not harder.

you can use all 4 and build a Corsi-Rosenthal Box, but 2" are better as the filters end up being "structural".

good for emergency situations (like smoke from a wildfire) https://www.reddit.com/r/Spokane/...box_guide/
