Be sure to research T-Mobile's locking policy and the fine print of the agreement. Basically you are locking yourself and the phone for 2 years with absolutely no way to unlock it, you can't pay off early, and you will be stuck with T-Mobile for years or you lose the bill credits.

See previous threads here on T-Mobile. They have become really consumer unfriendly in the last couple of years.
1) To check if your plan qualifies, log in and see if you have the promotion... verify by submitting your trade-in phone estimate. It's common sense. YES, most likely Simple Choice plan will qualify for this.

2) Phone cannot be cracked in the screen and no moisture/water damage. Also, cannot have destroyed pixels and dead spots. The back of the phone can have some wear & tear and cracks.

3) Best deal is to buy a Samsung S10 from eBay for your trade-in. This promotion will probably last another two weeks based on what they are saying from the subreddit.

4) You can get $100 Costco cashcard for being a Costco member. You can call or in-store. I've done both. I would probably call as it was quicker and just as simple. You also don't need to bring the phone with you. Just an IMEI. Just make sure the phone you are submitting qualifies or else you're going to be in a heap of trouble submitting the IMEI of a phone that might come cracked, etc.,

5) You can ship your trade-in phone or bring it in to a T-Mobile corporate store. Just tell them you have a phone to trade in... They will do basic checks and automatically approve your phone for trade-in on the spot. Saves you the hassle of UPS losing your trade-in phone during shipment.

Most of these questions have been asked... Just look at the old T-Mobile thread from two weeks ago.
Sprint would have free new iPhones with trade-ins with same 2 year commitment. T-Mobile also a few years back. This, their best offer, plain sucks!

Agreed. Wife had an iPhone 12 that is probably worth $250-300, depending. I have a lot of s10e's (favorite phone). I traded in one of my s10e's for her to get an iPhone 16. Now I can keep the 12 for later, or just sell it on swappa.
I have an iPhone 13, but bought a s10e to trade in for iPhone 16e through the Costco phone number after reading others' comments. My advice to other 13 owners is that doing the tradein this way is not worth it.
  • I paid $155 on Amazon for an Amazon Renewed s10e (next-day delivery, and I could be confident that the phone is in excellent shape and not locked).
  • I was offered $40 street value for the s10e, plus $460 credited over 24 months.
  • I confirmed that I would receive a $100 Costco gift card, and received the code needed for it.
  • I could not get the $100 off new phone price that others have mentioned; iPhone 16e is the retail $599.99 price.
  • I was charged ~$55 sales tax for 16e up front.
  • I will be charged $25 per month for 24 months, minus the $460 credit, so $5.83 per month or $140 over the 24 months.
  • The call took 40 minutes.
I ended up paying $155 for s10e + $55 sales tax + $140 - $100 gift card, or $250 net. I still have the iPhone 13 to sell; based on local Craigslist prices I can get ~$300 for it. Is $50 worth spending 40 minutes on the phone, plus the effort of selling on Craigslist? Not for me.
Had I a nicer phone to sell than 13 the math would be different. That said, T-Mobile would have offered a higher street value, too. (I wonder what T-Mobile's iPhone 13 street value is?)

They suggested you to ship it because they don't want to help.

You should have went to a different store. Even the T-Mobile employees on the phone told me to trade it in the store over the shipping
I went to two different stores and also contacted T-Mo to ask why they couldn't process the trade-in. Unfortunately, they weren't very helpful. The explanation I received was that either their trade in system is down (or) since I ordered the phone through Costco and had it shipped to my home, the system at store was not accepting the trade-in.

Sorry that happened to you.

I would suggest trying to reach out to tforce on twitter or facebook and explain the situation.

Mention that you tried bringing it at a corporate store and they told you to ship it out
I reached out to T-Mobile and explained the situation. They can see the calls I made about attempting to trade in at stores and the stores refusing to accept it. The representative documented everything on my account and will follow up with me this Friday. They also mentioned that UPS sometimes marks a package as damaged or missing but may still end up delivering it. I have no hope that UPS will come through, but I do hope T-Mobile will honor the promo since this issue is beyond my control. If not, I'll have to spend time fighting this!

firstly, you way overpaid for the s10e by $40. your math is incorrect as well: Your $50 is incorrect

Your suggestion (trade in iphone 13): Iphone 16e for: $655-$500-$100= $55 (upgrade)
With a S10e: $655+155-$500-100- $300 (sell iphone 13) = you get paid $90 to upgrade (ie difference between iphone 13 cost and s10e= $145)

If you had only paid regular market price of $110 for the S10e- you would have been $190 better off rather than $145.
Thats a significant amount for this deal (even at $145 saving)

tmobile booths inside of Costco waive activation (connection) fees.
$35 waived
Sams club does this as well.
You can also call up the Costco tmobile line and the reps over the phone should waive it as well.

There have been reports of some reps at the Costco booth that the only way they can waive the $35 fee is if they buy accessories....that is a lie.

If I get an S10e from Ebay for trade-in, does it have to be the T-Mobile version (not sure if that's a thing) and does it have to be unlocked?

It could be from any carrier. Doesn't have to be unlocked

I'll post what I did and maybe it will help others

4 upgrades to 16 pro on simple choice.

Purchased 4 cheap samsungs on eBay. I have newer iPhones but I would not trade those in UNLESS you don't want to mess with eBay/swappa etc.

It does take a bit more time on eBay since you have to be sure there are no issues with the phone.
I paid about $100 after taxes for each trade in. I did all 4 upgrades over the phone with Tmobile Costco.
$67 each up front for taxes, $35 x 4 activation fees waived.
Most Tmobile Costco reps will push accessories, insurance, wearable devices etc...just decline.

I also submitted 4x $100 Costco cash which I consider as cash for paying the 4 trade ins

I took the 4 trade ins to a corporate store. I reset all the devices and went through the initial setup so that the rep could easily see the imei. I made sure to go early around opening time in order to avoid a wait time. I know that reps don't really like helping people when there is no commission for them to earn. Especially now that Tmobile is moving to the tlife app for most transactions.
The reps gave me a receipt for each trade in.

I went with this deal because older rate plans rarely get deals. The last deal was the half price iPhone 13's.

I'm not leaving Tmobile anytime soon. Simple choice has been good to me and the price is excellent.

Also, if you have an older iPhone, sell it privately. I'm sure an iPhone 13 could easily get $250 at the very minimum. Use that to pay some of the new device off

One more thing, check to see how much is your financing limit with Tmobile. I did not check my limit but on the 4th 16 pro upgrade, I had to put around $500 down payment.

My iPhone 16 PM will be delivered soon, but I think I have buyer's remorse.
Should I refuse the UPS delivery or accept it and return the unopened phone to the store?

What are some good sellers for Samsung on eBay? Do we need to worry about black dot Samsung screens? Could they be rejected? Thanks

I personally tried to only buy from regular small sellers vs resellers. I would send them a message on eBay and they would reply things such as "read the description" "we are bulk sellers, we can't test every device".

I've read that there should be no black dots and no dead pixels. Some have said that image burn was fine but I did not want to risk it. All of mine had good screens. No cracks, no dead pixels. One did have a sort of deep scratch but the rep at the store accepted it.
