Here's a warning for those that was a member before regardless how long it has been expired. When you go to redeem, they would deny the deal and insist you to renew, so you will not be eligible for the gift card. For those want to try anyway, you've been warned.

Just a heads up: Costco customer service tends not to honor these promos.
First time, I was trying to set up my own account under my own name with this promo but instead they just renewed my brother's account that I was on years ago. Clearly a different person and address but they didn't care. When I asked them about the shop card and coupon book, they said it doesn't apply. I wasn't in the mood to fight it so I let it go.
Second time, I was helping a friend take advantage of a promo. New account and everything. They referred her to Groupon to claim the freebies.
Well it was supposed to. But I never got mine. Groupon said to talk to Costco. Costco said it was Groupons responsibility.
YMMV but I've got a very bad taste in my mouth from the run around and I've never seen the gift card
I had that experience too. Just go in at the end of your membership period and ask Costco for a refund because you are not happy as they never delivered their promotional gift card after a year of trying and wasting hours of your time. They'll either give you a gift card right there at customer service, or refund your membership (which would be better than the gift card).

Agreed. My advise in these situations is to tell them you want to cancel your membership for a refund because they never delivered the promo that was promised, and see how quickly they suddenly want to help you.

Instead of $20 gift card, they should've add "guaranteed free 5 dozen eggs" as welcome bonus. Idk about you guys, but if that happens, I will wake up my grandma from her eternal sleep to sign up as new member.

FYI if you buy this, do NOT refresh or leave the page after you applied the membership code on the costco site, it will bug and you will need to call customer service to activate it

In next week t-mobile tuesday (T-Life), there will be promo code to get $30 costco shop card when you sign up as new member
Costco frequently sells $100 Instacart gift cards for $80. You can use these gift cards to order from Costco Same Day delivery (which is powered by Instacart). This ends up costing about the same as shopping in store, i.e. it counteracts the cost of delivery
Just an fyi, there is a high chance the employee you deal with to get your card in-store will sign you up for auto-renew without telling you. And it will only show up on their side. It happened to me and a lot of others in the Costco Reddit. It clearly stated on my app and website that auto-renew was off. But only on their side it was on. I've had employees say that's what they're told to do. And also they will push you like hell to upgrade to executive.
