It's mainly internal changes, such as the springs in the triggers being 40mm instead of 30mm. You really won't feel/see any difference unless you take it apart.
Yes. Either that or order new and return broken. There is no serial # on the box that ties to the controller.

Sony learned from Nintendo that if they produce crappy controllers, they can make more money. So they're essentially forcing our hand, since they won't service them

Kudos to Nintendo for fixing for free
What's V2 about it? Or is V2 a way to differentiate standard color controller from variants?

The Dualsense Edge has replaceable sticks, but they will continue to need to get drift and need to be replaced.
If you know how to Solder I'd recommend buying Hall effect joy sticks and replacing them. This is somewhat difficult so if you can't solder, pay someone to do it for you. It'll be cheaper than the dual sense edge and a one time purchase.
I hate that you're probably correct.

I also hate that I'm just on the edge between "I can solder" and "watching a video of this makes me think it'd be pushing the limits of my abilities."

But, your comment got me to looking and there's a local shop that will replace both sticks for $50 (kudos to whomever does this guy's SEO because I was NOT searching for something local when this popped up.) Considering the sticks themselves would run $32, I'll probably go this route.

Wooo nice return fraud!I've never had stick drift except on gamecube when you boot the system with the stick tilted. I've played hundreds of hours of switch and ps5. My family member has some insane like 1600 hours in animal crossing on a switch lite and no drift. Idk what people do to them.
Bought a switch a few years ago for my kids for Christmas. Used very lightly for probably 30 minutes for Animal Crossing and one of the sticks was unusable lol. Didn't do anything to it.

Luckily those controllers that come with a Switch are too small even for children, so we just replaced them all with $5 ones from Amazon that have worked fine for years. Never bothered trying to fix it or get it replaced, they just went right in the trash.

Nice, did not know this was even possible. Desoldering the OG sticks looks like a pain from the YT videos but otherwise quite doable.

its doable i would not recommend it. they used high temp solder tin. i attempted it and was unsuccessful it undid the brass contacts on the joints because of the heat. i bought those anti drift boards that solder right on top of the pins. its been working well so far.

I wouldn't.

These are fabulous controllers out of the box, but stick drift IS a thing with them. You can mitigate it somewhat making tweaks to the profile in DS4Windows and recalibrating with a Github tool, but...srsly man, fkk all that.

You can get any number of hall effect pads at this price point, which will be a much better buy in the long run.

It's your money, do what you want, but when Regret Monkey crockslaps you with the ol' Tokyo Drift that's 100% gonna be on you.

I recently got an apex 4 controller and it's great but the dual sense emulation is a bit garbage. Yes I got it working eventually but it is janky as hell sometimes. the signaling for the feedback causes insane lag on the joystick from my testing. I want the real deal now...
plus I think having option of having a symmetrical joystick layout likely helps for certain titles.

I have never soldered before and just changed 3 sets of joysticks.

Get a heat gun and solder pump it makes taking the old sticks off easier.

Don't forget to calibrate after.
