Sony learned from Nintendo that if they produce crappy controllers, they can make more money. So they're essentially forcing our hand, since they won't service them
Kudos to Nintendo for fixing for free

If you know how to Solder I'd recommend buying Hall effect joy sticks and replacing them. This is somewhat difficult so if you can't solder, pay someone to do it for you. It'll be cheaper than the dual sense edge and a one time purchase.
I also hate that I'm just on the edge between "I can solder" and "watching a video of this makes me think it'd be pushing the limits of my abilities."
But, your comment got me to looking and there's a local shop that will replace both sticks for $50 (kudos to whomever does this guy's SEO because I was NOT searching for something local when this popped up.) Considering the sticks themselves would run $32, I'll probably go this route.

Yep, the red is fire. I've been waiting on a deal too, thanks op!
Luckily those controllers that come with a Switch are too small even for children, so we just replaced them all with $5 ones from Amazon that have worked fine for years. Never bothered trying to fix it or get it replaced, they just went right in the trash.
its doable i would not recommend it. they used high temp solder tin. i attempted it and was unsuccessful it undid the brass contacts on the joints because of the heat. i bought those anti drift boards that solder right on top of the pins. its been working well so far.

These are fabulous controllers out of the box, but stick drift IS a thing with them. You can mitigate it somewhat making tweaks to the profile in DS4Windows and recalibrating with a Github tool, but...srsly man, fkk all that.
You can get any number of hall effect pads at this price point, which will be a much better buy in the long run.
It's your money, do what you want, but when Regret Monkey crockslaps you with the ol' Tokyo Drift that's 100% gonna be on you.
plus I think having option of having a symmetrical joystick layout likely helps for certain titles.

Get a heat gun and solder pump it makes taking the old sticks off easier.
Don't forget to calibrate after.
