Not a bad deal but I find I have better luck just rolling around with a handful of plug adapters for the group of countries I am traveling to then plugging in my stuff directly into those. You still need to police yourself with voltage (mainly hair dryers) either way, they are smaller, and since each one is connected to their own plug all of your charging devices aren't locked into a single corner of your hotel room.

Even if you need to carry two sets of plug adapters (say you are going to the UK and 'Europe' proper) the multiple adapters should take up less room.

No extension cord though. Again, not a bad deal but especially with the 20w USB this really limits its own usefulness.

We're hopefully moving to Germany soon, and these will be handy to have both around the house and while traveling around Europe since all of my current power strips won't work over there. Good timing.

I prefer this style [amazon.com] for travel

Attachment 17205511

It can connect to many types of outlets and many plugs for devices, with USB ports as well.

You can always buy a power strip locally for less than $2.

… not one that works with US devices.

We realized on our last couple trips that almost everything we plug in uses USB (A or C). If you're using a hairdryer and your lodging doesn't have it, you'll need a converter anyway -- or a convertible/switchable device. For us a couple of little blocks with USB ports handled a family of 4, no problem. No laptops, just Apple stuff mostly.

This is a great idea, but think about what you need first.

I hate these universal style adapters, the type c plug is too loose and never stays on the wall outlet and the USB ports burn out after a while. This one does look better though with the full diamond shape when the type c is extended. I'm with WooHoo that straight adapters are the easiest to work with.

Just buy a European and UK adapter for your existing power strip for a couple of bucks instead.

Converting a three-pronged grounded outlet to a two-pronged outlet means you are dropping the ground line, which is not the safest thing to do, especially for high-wattage appliances like hair dryers.

120v hair dryers won't generally work on 240v AC. This kind of thing is only good for phones and laptops that can operate at 120-240 using their existing power supply.

Right, that was just a (bad) example, but still not a good idea to kill the ground line as you never know what the customer is going to plug into the socket.

A big NO on this one!
This is not just bad but outright dangerous device! Grounding exists for a reason - and it's been dropped and then faked with this contraption.

Then, on top, it simulates polarized US plugs (one is thin and one is thick for live and neutral) - except it allows you to plug the EU plug backwards (as in EU they are not polarized). In this instance the US plug should use two thin non-polarized connectors (so that you could not plug a device that expects a polarized/correctly-wired outlet).

Plugging this contraption the wrong way may literally kill someone!

Be very aware that this will NOT allow you to use 110V US appliances in Europe and if you try to plug in a US appliance only rated for 110V, it will very likely overheat, if not burn out the electrical wiring and circuitry. Most electronics (laptops, smartphones, USB power adapters, battery chargers) do have switching to allow 110/220V input, so all you would need is a cheap plug adapter. However, you may want to get a cheap short extension cord with multiple outlets from a discount or dollar store that you can use to plug several of your chargers (that allow 110/220V) so you can use a single outlet for multiple devices.

BUT you cannot use that for anything that only uses 110V when you are in Europe!

It's NOT A Voltage Converter: This Europe power adapter can NOT convert voltage from 230V to 120V or vice versa. It's compatible with only wide voltage (100V-250V) electronics products. Your electric appliances such as hair dryer, hair straightener, electric shaver, electric toothbrush which need to support Dual Voltage (100V-250V) for using in EU countries

I'd be careful with this especially if your power strip has a switch. Power strips with a standard 110v US plug are rated to work at lower voltage.
