I've used most kinds of electric razors and several bladed razors. I have settled on this specific Braun. Here's what's up:

Norelcos and all other spinning-circle shavers are worthless. I swear they pluck the hairs individually instead of shaving.
No electric shaves as close as a good bladed razor. But it's nearly impossible to cut yourself with an electric.
Panasonic ARC gives the closest electric shave, but it takes longer and more passes to shave with them than the Braun. Worse, the blades wear out much faster than the Braun and are very expensive.
This Braun doesn't shave quite as close as the Panasonic, but it shaves much more quickly and the blades last over twice as long.

I use this Braun, because I can shave in 30-45 seconds, which means I shave nearly every day instead of putting it off because it takes too long. On average I look better and take far less time to do it.

PROTIP: You can throw out the charging base and the "cleaning" liquid. The battery will last much longer if you only charge it when it gets low, the base won't take up a huge chunk of your vanity, and you won't pay hundreds of dollars over the years for little pods of Listerine in a plastic caddy. Just pull the blades off and tap out the whiskers every few days, rinse it under the sink, and lube it once every couple weeks so the blades last longer. A few drops of mineral oil on each foil will do, or you can buy the lube spray like @Fragster said.

I bought a USB-C adapter on Amazon for this, under $10 bucks. Tested briefly at home, seems to charge it up fine.

$149.99 at my local store and they have 28 left.
This is probably discontinued and price will go down when they have 4-5 left.

It's been a couple decades since I used an electric razor. Are manual razors (I use a Gillette fusion) still far superior, or is something like this pretty comparable?
Really depends on your face. If you want to try electric again, I suggest you give it some time. Three weeks or a month of just using the electric. It's gonna suck for a little while, but your facial hair "adapts" and the electric will eventually get close to as good as a manual shave.

Is it actually good and do you have to change the blades?
I have a lesser model (the 7 series) and it's a good shave. I do think my old Panasonic arc used to cut a bit better, but the new Panasonics are so large it's almost laughable

You do have to replace the foil, but it's about every 12-18 months. It is relatively expensive (like $30-$40) but once you factor in the cost of shaving gel and manual, it's not so bad.

I have had this for a bit. It's ok at best. Worth it at this price but not the $150 I paid. My old Arc was much better at $100 I think.

I agree 100%...had moved to a shaver in the past and then moved to a single edge razor and took me a few weeks to get hang of it but love it now and get the smoothest shave I have ever had and it's way cheaper than other shaving options available....my 2 cents

Those are kind of opposite ends of the spectrum. I use an electric to save time and it is good enough. I don't want to spend 45 minutes on a shaving routine.

I'm going to try it out and see if it does a good job shaving my face and my thinning hair on my head. Good price
