After coupon and 15% S&S discount, the total is $112.49 + tax ($121.94).. so just over $10/filter, which is a solid price.

Yes they expire and go rancid after about a year. I bought a whole bunch of these a few years back and regretted it storing them all when I went to grab one it was like black jelly coming out

With these filters, you'll get a sour or fishy taste when they stop working even if their gimmicky reader still reads 0 ppm. Another tell that it is nearly time to change the filter is how long it takes for the pre-filtered water to go through. If you still have water in the top reservoir when you'd expect otherwise, then consider changing filters. This starts before the sour or fishy taste. From my experience, I get 45 days per filter. My kids won't drink the zero water. So it's just the dog and me. I mostly use it for cooking.
Tried that with Costco/brita filters. Did not do much to the life of filter.
I used these for a while, went through numerous filters, got tired of having to replace them within a relatively short usage per filter.
I switched to waterdrop, it's alright. A lot less filter replacements and no change in water taste if filter runs out.
