I paid $49.99 on Amazon for the 6 cup with the stainless steel inner pot. The 6 cup model with the stainless steel inner pot (no steamer) is $32 right now. Good for those who want to avoid non-stick.

forget aluminum and nonstick. Stick with stainless.

We've had one of these for years. They last forever, highly recommended!!
Yup, love these exact rice cookers, my parents are still using the same one for 5+ years and never had any issues, still cooks rice perfectly, same quality every time, easy to clean.

How's this compare to those expensive brands made in Japan like Tiger?

I use an old Pyrex bowl made in usa with correlle plate on top. Microwave perfect rice. Less clutter and future disposal.

Our Zojirushi just died today after 20 years of 3-4 times usage per week. It now switches to warm when it's not done cooking, with water hasn't finished absorbed all in yet. Push it to cook it will immediately pop back to warm. Does that mean it's dead and there's no way of fixing it?

My mom does this too, and it turns out pretty good. I usually make it in a small pot, though it is a bit tempermental. Gotta get it just right. I need to get me a good pyrex bowl like what you and my mom have.

Then again, this rice cooker would be handy too... I just hate getting extra clutter if I have something that already works.

Would you give us more details please? How many cups can you cook, normal water ratio, and how long to microwave for? Thanks so much.

These work very simply with a magnet that holds the bowl until all the water is cooked off, then it releases. It is a really interesting mechanism.
You may want to check that there is no debris between the magnet (which holds heating element up) and the bowl, so a good cleaning would be my only advice. If that doesn't work, replace.

I used a normal tall steel pot (which fits inside) and it helped not to spill the rice/water flow out.

This is for those who have bought aluminum non stick pot and now wants to use the steel pot.

Bought the IMUSA 3-cup cooker for $16 on Amazon from a slick deal a couple weeks ago. This is a cup more of rice, but is it a better device? I'm fairly happy with the IMUSA..

Edit: my bad, this is only 2 cups uncooked, not 4. Not enough for us.

Got same size in red from Woot for $10 a few months ago, works great for one or 2.
