Bought an upgraded version (16g Ram / 512gb nvme)of this a few months ago. Works great as a personal server, within reason. Couple notes, it does have 2 nvme slots one being 2280 (standard), the other is a odd keyed 2242. Also only one ram slot.

Linux. I pulled the NVMe drive from this box and installed it to an external NVMe USB enclosure, and burned HAOS to it using Balena Etcher in Windows on my laptop. Reinstalled the NVMe drive in the GMKTec box and booted it up, found the DHCP IP address on my router, and then used the Web UI to finish configuration.

I can't back up what they said about licenses for every manufacturer but the malware thing was in the AceMagic (aka acemagician/Kamrui/other brands) miniPCs a year ago.

Yes, the AceMagic/Magician fiasco shows you should be cautious about some of these. I would never purchase that brand - it only takes one foul-up to permanently burn that bridge. I like these for little Linux servers, so I wipe Windows off, and hopefully none turn out to have questionable BIOS firmware.

I'm thinking of using this to upgrade my Legends Ultimate Arcade. Anyone try Batocera with this thing? Goal would be through Dreamcast era emulation. Would I be better off with an AMD APU version?

Also, anyone give Proxmox on one of these a go? I've been running HomeAssistant on a RPi for several years now, and while while that's been fine, I do want to move to something faster. I also have some other small uses like a MPD/media server, etc. hence the desire for something like Proxmox over just Hassio.
I run a N100 (different machine than this) with proxmox: Jellyfin/Plex (direct play clients, do no transcoding required), all the file "sharing" automation you can think of (inclusive of VPN), homebridge, etc and it runs it fine. The only thing that actually makes the N100 spin up is VPN traffic. N100 already overkill for the tasks. It even does all read/write to an Openmediavault NAS (the NAS is being decommissioned for a Unifi NAS)

You should be able to run Dreamcast on this easily. There are a bunch of YouTube videos showing what it's capable of for emulation, you should be able to run up to PS2 with no issues.. But there is also the 12gb and 16gb ramvariant of this so I don't remember if the more ram is required to run the higher end systems.

Thanks, went with a 12GB version that uses DDR5 to be safe. Final price was $150 before tax.

Is this powerful enough to use as a dedicated media device for a tv? Netflix, youtube, hulu, etc.. and regular online browsing. would rather get this than a streaming device for better online browsing.

Quick correction, it was $160 after coupon ($230-$70). It was a different model (but still N150/12GB/512GB). This is the one I ordered: GMKtec G2 Plus Mini PC, Intel Twin Lake N150(Upgraded N100) up to 3.6GHz, Desktop Mini Computer 12GB LPDDR5 RAM 512GB SSD WiFi 6 BT5.2 Red https://a.co/d/1FjntRl

I purchased one of these from their website directly and it was fulfilled by Amazon.I sent a question to their customer service email and never got a response. Maybe it was one-off, but in the last thread for these someone noted issues with warranty claims too.
I purchased one of these the N100 version though from Amazon and did have to warranty it. They warrantied it no issue but i did have to pay to ship it to them.

Ok. I didn't know you meant a product in a different page. I was just really confused there and thought to got a grand deal there.

GMKtec honours their warranty. The plastic fins on the cpu cooling fan disintegrated on my unit and they promptly send me a replacement fan (~1 wk turnaround). This is a good deal. I am running MX LInux on mine with no issues. Win11 may need more ram...

I honestly didn't even notice is was a different model (G2 Plus vs G3) given the similarity of specs. Quite frankly, I am having trouble finding the differences between the two, but I think it will work fine for me regardless.

Yea. same conundrum...differences I found:

G3 Plus
- Memory is DDR4 3200Mhz (Can be upgraded, Not soldered)
- 2.5 Gbs LAN port
- 2 Display (2 x HDMI Ports)
- Proprietary barrel power plug
- Newer SSD drive
- 3.4 Ghz Burst Turbo

G2
- Memory is DDR5 4800MHz (On-Board Soldered On)
- Twin 1 Gbs LAN Ports
- USB C Power Plug
- 3 Display (2 x HDMI Ports; 1 x DP v1.4 Port)
- Older tech SSD drive so Upgrade may be expensive
- 3.6 Ghz Burst Turbo

I went with G2 Plus so can use any USB C cable to power and for $30 more got 512 SSD and 12 Gig Memory than G3 Plus.
