Out of those on sale movies listed, many are available in 4K format, So, why buy in HDX format ?

Thanks. Some might be D2D, but at $2.40 with GC savings, the convenience wins out for me on this purchase.

The cost. Also it is streaming. 4K streaming has so much compression that I never really feel like I'm getting much more than blu-ray quality anyway.

Almost all of these are D2D for $2. Ace Ventura and Desperado are also D2D, but are $5 conversions from DVD to HDX. A few others like that, but I don't know off the top of my head. I wonder if Fandango will upgrade these to 4K for free after purchase like they've done for a few HDX deals recently.

Unlikely they will update for free. The reason they only offer HDX on many of these is so you will have to purchase 4K updates in the future. It's very good business to make you purchase items more than once. Look at your HDX movies in fandango, I have 1900, most of the HDX gives you the option at a cost to update 4KšŸ˜ž

It's rare and random, but I remembered Fandango At Home upgraded Seven (Se7en) to 4K from a similar mix-and-match deal a month or 2 ago. People who bought the HDX got an e-mail a few days later that their copy was upgraded to 4K. One or 2 other recent deals like that too.

It was Se7en and also several of the titles from that same Mix & Match sale that upgraded. Most of them auto-upgraded instantly, but Se7en in particular seemed to take a little longer (perhaps because it was newly-4K).

This has been the only instance that I'm aware of. I bought a mix and match bundle shortly after this sale and saw that they didn't do upgrades after. I think it was more of a slip up on their end than anything else.

It also happened in the Oscars 3 for $12 sale. Some of the titles upgraded like: Wizard of Oz, The Matrix, Ready Player One, Mad Max Fury Road, American Sniper, A Star is Born, The Unforgiven, BladeRunner 2049, Kong Skull Island, Dunkirk, Casblanca, Tenet, The Green Mile, Elvis, Dune (that I'm aware of).
Definitely seems YMMV, and definitely not all of the Mix & Match sales get auto or delayed upgrades. I think the Oscars sale was all WB, so perhaps the studio has a say as well.
