Picked this up because I kept moving the one I had previously bought from my outdoor cooking area to the kitchen. I'm a late bloomer to serious cooking. A digital thermometer makes a world of difference for those of us with a lack of time and experience over the cooktop. Made an egg custard for the first time that came out great because I was able to get the milk to the perfect temperature before blending. Cooked pork boneless ribs the other night to exactly 145 degrees internal, again, because of this digital thermometer. Incredibly moist and tender results.
If you cook, inside or outside, these are awesome tools.

I have one of these, it's fine. Nothing fancy, and not as durable, precise, accurate, or fast as something like a Thermapen, but nowhere near the price, of course. I've used those and other pricy ones in commercial settings, and I tell people that for occasional use at home, these types of cheapies are accurate enough though. I've been using a $10 Expert Grill thermometer from Walmart for several years, and it's been great. There's no reason not to have an instant read thermometer in your kitchen or by your grill if you can get these for $4, and when you break it or lose it, oh well, you're out $4. Buy two!

It took 5 seconds to go from room temp to 205 F in almost boiling water. Not great but okay.
The backlight doesn't stay on long, about 10 seconds. Any longer would probably kill the battery prematurely anyway, so I understand that.
It comes with a 2032 battery installed and has a spare in the box. A pack of 2032 is going to cost you $4 on Amazon, something to consider.
If you have time to be more selective and willing to spend more $, you 'might' want to get a model that gets to temp faster and/or with AA or AAA batteries.
No, Amazon has not rooted them out, they are worse than ever but fakespot will now give them an A or a B because it can't spot the fakes anymore when the newer reviews are using AI.

It is $4 item and Amazon offers returns if you find it bad.
This over analyzing fear and worry for such small purchases has to stop. I see so many get dissuaded from good deal anymore it is a shame. No this may not be top of the line or last forever but very nice and good items can be had for China for ridiculously low prices. The shelves at Costco Walmart, Lowes and Target are also full of them they just charge more.
