1. We had same initial experience. It sucked. But then I started using warm water and making sure I used a very liberal four tablespoons of the soap. Could even try a fifth. It made a difference and thickened the spray
2. I made sure to mix everything together, when ingredients all in measuring cup, before I poured it back in the spray bottle. This also (very surprisingly) made a difference for us.
YMMV - after experimenting a few small changes, we got something that works and saves us $$$ on this stuff

The alcohol is optional and really just used to keep the bottle spray nozzle from clogging up. If you don't use alcohol, you can unclog by running under warm tap water.
