I got my 85" QN85D for $910, which includes tax + free full motion wall mount + mount installation. QN85D sells at Costco right now for $2,199. Lol
Fwiw, QN85D is an excellent TV and we love it.
And, isnt there a refurb deal( with a 2 year warranty) thread here on the newer Hisense 85" U8N for about this same price?
Rtings also says that the newer Hisense u8n is better than the current TCL QM851
I am thinking this TV should be about $1100-1200( max)

Exact same dilemma. Mine will be in a dark room so I'm leaning 98.

I thought I wanted the Hisense U8N over the TCL, but I just returned from Best Buy and saw them both in person. The TCL wins for picture quality IMO. Pops a lot more, more vivid, higher HDR.
Better build quality too, as the Hisense is all plastic, while the TCL is a bit more premium with a metal frame. Samsung makes the TCL panel, so the QM8 is basically a higher end Samsung for a budget price. That said, I'm holding out for a deal on the 2024 model QM851G because the jump in picture quality from the 2023 QM850G is substantial.

if that made much if any difference, then Sony would not have what has been regarded as the best televisions for years...since Sony stopped making their own panels years ago
But I am on the same page as rtings.com. I prefer the Hisense a bit better but they are really two horns on the same goat. One would be well served to buy whichever is cheaper at the time
Neither is going to win any prizes for picture processing or color accuracy and a buyer needs to know they will be dealing with some occasional buginess as well
On another note
I dont ever look at my Samsung QN90C and think that my Hisense U8N is just as good...even though the Hisense is brighter and has some very good black levels

Try both with Apple TV for an "Apple's to apples" comparison.
I use Apple TV with every TV I own, and it makes my 15 yr old Sony & 10 yr old Samsung as snappy as my 2 year old LG OLED. No more bugginess, and better color accuracy. Your Hisense U8 would really shine with an Apple TV. If you go for it, pls let us know how it looks on the U8.

The banding on the U8H can be pretty rough..especially for greens
They have improved with the U8N...but its not one of going to fool anyone that has look at say a Sony bravia 9
And I get it...they are value brand TV's...so I have always had the right expectations
