Seems like a decent deal. My main concern is the "WVA" screen which stands for wide viewing angle. There is no mention of IPS.

That is Dell's equivalent term for IPS. They just don't use that term.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7730U is a mobile processor that was launched in Q1 2023, making it roughly 1 year and 3 months old as of March 13, 2025.
------------------------------------------------------
This has 16GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD.
These specs should always be part of a laptop deal's title. Everyone wants to know these specs. Edit>Go Advanced, from a full site page (not from the SD App or from a mobile site page).

P.S. I can't tell if RAM can be upgraded or if some or all is soldered. Costco shows 16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, DDR4, 3200 MHz Memory.
A YT reviewer from a similar model says theirs came w/ 1 X 8GB module and you can add another. So there is hope you could swap out an 8GB module for more if 16GB (2 X 8GB) does not suit your needs. It probably will be enough for now for most users though.

Of note: 2 different 1-star reviewers mention- USB-C does not support charging.
1 of those also says no ethernet or video though the USB-C port.
These are FAQs for laptop deal threads.

There is no mention on Costco of a backlit keyboard. Another FAQ in laptop threads. With this having a touchscreen, they may have decided not to include a backlit kbd.

No mention of a FP reader.

I searched Dell and can't find this model (likely Costco specific). Maybe someone else can...

Inspiron 3xxx seems to be pretty heavily recommended against due to build quality, particularly the hinges but notably the cheap plastic.

On a side node, what's the large interest in backlit keyboards?

I'm missing it when I have to answer emails in bed while my SO is next to me. I got the Acer Chromebook from them instead and am wondering if the extra $200 is worth it for this Dell? Chrome OS is just so weird.

Ahh, I figured it was people working on laptops in the dark. I keep my laptop in another room. If I have to do anything work related, it's off to another room where I'm by myself and can turn the light on. Then again, I really don't like working in dark rooms after having done so for about a year ages ago.

I saw this in store... STAY AWAY. It's made fun the cheapest plastic. Acer chromebook is also plastic but feels high end durable vs this. This laptop should be <200 just by its materials. Guess I just gotta get use to chrome os.

Solid choice for a college student going to community college as the college bookstore prices for the typical notebook computer is much more expensive than $400; this is a decent mid-level AMD Ryzen 7the generation notebook CPU with Bluetooth 5.0 and WI-FI 5.0 that offers free second year notebook computer warranty support and a ninety day return policy along with free technical support by Costco. It does have a SD memory expansion slot that can take up to an additional 1Tb micro SD memory card for those who might need some more additional memory i.e. samsung 512gb micro SD memory card is only about $50 for those needing to upgrade up to 1 Tb total memory expansion capability with 512gb SSD and 512gb micro Sd memory card(still under $500.00); so yes this is a nice budget pick for the fall semester for the community college student in the under $500 not to bad value proposition pick for a brand name reputation notebook and the other nice thing about this notebook is this notebook has a touch screen interface; this would be a pretty tough value proposition deal for a potential college student to beat; so a big double thumbs up to Dell for hitting all the value proposition college student check boxes in a notebook computer at this under $500 Dell notebook computer value proposition price point; i.e. the Samsung - Galaxy Book4 360 is nearly $1,000 price point but that is nearly double the price also as well and within two years time one can always get a much better and more powerful notebook computer if actually needed after completion of ones two year community college experience.
Now the previous dell Inspiron notebook is good for the on the go portable notebook computer application while on the community college campus; but when one gets back to home base one might need a much more powerful fixed computer:

The Acer Magic Ryzen 7 8845HS, 32GB DDR5, 1TB Gen4 SSD, USB4; is a much more substantial home base computer that is based on the latest AMD Ryzen 8845HS CPU chip with 8 cpu cores and 16 thread 16mb of L3 cach and 5.1ghz turbo frequence and AMD radeon 780 with 12 graphic cpu cores and 2.7ghz graphics speed and RDNA3 graphic architecture; using the latest AMD Ryzen AI cpu chip along with its WIFI 6 and Bluetooth 5.2; along with 32gb DDR5 and 1tb m.2 NVMe PCIe4.0x4 SSD and full featured thunderbolt USB4 type C-Port and it does have HDMI 2.0 video port output with two of these ports as well as thunderbolt 4.0 video port; for a total of three video outputs so that one can watch computer monitor output screen, gaming computer monitor output, and a multimedia computer video monitor going on all at the same time for some pretty incredible highly efficient multi-tasking on a decently powerful very small form factor mini-PC computer.

Students NEED a laptop, not a stationary PC. If you're ok with a REFURB, for $400 I just purchased a Slim 5 (metal case) laptop @ Lenovo Outlet with the same 8845 processor, 16" touchscreen, 512gb SSD, microSD slot, 16 GB DDR5-6400, HDMI for a monitor in the dorm, and 1 year OEM warranty. A reliable laptop brand with great specs for the price, but you may need to monitor for availability.
