There is no dedicated single player aspect to the game. It's coop multi-player for up to four people. You can play with friends or just drop into any match with an opening. You certainly can play this by yourself and set it to private so no one else will join, but it's not nearly as fun.

This isn't true for random people. I rarely have a bad time with random people. I don't know about solo.

All it takes is one game for two teamers to team kill on the server to ruin the experience.

The game encourages team work and you are often overwhelmed... but that's ok.
