To be more precise, the 8k isn't 'stretched' - it's TWO separate true 4K lenses that are recording onto the same file (and you might see the 'stitch' line in the final image)
Yeah. Does "applied to" or "wallpapered" work? Haha.

The point I was trying to get across was that even with those dual 4K sensors, each lens provides that sensor a very wide-angle hemisphere. And as such any time you want a more traditional video or action cam focal length/aspect ratio, it's going to be cropped down from 4K (or 8k coming from the full sphere)

Ahh, i see what you're saying... the stretching totally depends on reframing the 360's 'fisheye' effect. You are correct! Their software probably gives you less than 4K when you reframe from circular to another aspect ratio

Anyone recommend? Heard it's niche and many people don't use it as often. Thoughts?

I got the Costco deal for $430, took it skiing with the grandkids. I was able to ski with them and get several great videos off a single run, you can tell it to track whatever object or pan yourself. Copying to files off the SD card to a computer and editing with the program was superior. You can edit from your phone over bluetooth but I much preferred using my computer.

I did film an event in a school gym and it shut down after overheating. However I did have the capture set to max, 8k 30.

It is kind of gimmicky however not having to frame while skiing with 2 kids was very good, you won't miss anything. The resulting video was really good. The fish-eye was not really noticeable.

I returned mine after using it for vacation. It was horrible experience. The Stabilizer is not that good. The controller is both touchscreen and buttons. So, it's confusing to navigate what you want. Also, there is no zoom during recording.

I previously bought a x4 for my motorcycle. It is a niche use for me but works great and glad I bought it.

Its a great camera but if you want to use it to its full potential you need to do editing (either on phone or their own free downloadable 360 studio program on a computer).

There are some options for point and click modes on the such as photos and panoramas but for videos expect to spend some time editing if you plan on sharing the videos or using them in a non VR manner.

The great thing about the camera is it records everything, you can make alot of different videos from one recording just by reframing what you want to look at.

My only issue is that if you plan to be out and about for awhile, be sure to bring a power bank to charge the camera between shots or carry a spare battery. Max res 360 video eats away at the battery pretty hard.

same here, but we take it on our trips, it's nice to have.
it does overheat when using the 4K recording mode, perhaps next gen would fix it, I knew the issue before buying it but it's a big improvement over the last gen, and it fits our needs for recording.
I also did a lot of YouTube comparisons with the DJI handheld, this one does everything I wanted to do.
if you need it buy it, if not, wait for next gen

I heard the same things when I was researching and ultimately ended up buying an X3, and I ended up using mine all the time. I didn't find editing to be difficult or time consuming at all. I mean, if people are going into it wanting a point and shoot flexibility where zero user input is involved besides capturing and sharing, then it's definitely the wrong camera. But that's really a hit on them for even considering it. It's like people that buy high end DSLR cameras complaining that their iPhone shots look better.

With that said, editing on the app is simple and quick. You can quickly focus on a specific subject, follow it, and export a quick clip. Or you can bring it into DaVinci and with a free plugin edit it with ease in DaVinci. If your goal is to never post process, then it's not the camera for you. If you want the flexibility that the 360 offers and are ok with a couple minutes of effort in the app for simple clips, then it's probably for you.

For my situation, a 360 camera has enabled me to always be fully in the moment during important family events. I'm able to turn it on and forget about it, knowing that it's there capturing memories I'll be able to revisit anytime in the future. When I have time and I'm in the mood, I'll work through some of my favorite events and put together well cut family movies. I usually save this for the wintertime. And it's resulted in so many great memories captured that otherwise I would never have gotten, or I only would have achieved if I played an active role filming instead of enjoying the moment.

completely agree with you re the utility of this camera.

I upgraded from the X3 to X4 last year, I think the X3 is the sweet spot if you can find it for cheap. X3 is 90-95% of X4 but for much less money if you can still find it.

I have the 360 RS Twin and I love that thing. Only gripe is with quality but I've heard this one is much better.

I can say I absolutely love mine. Word of warning is that you'll spend a lot of time editing and getting the right shot. If you aren't going to spend the time editing, it's not worth getting
