Great deal if you don't have many of the movies and don't care about 4k. Personally I don't buy criterion blurays anymore because when they release a 4k edition they re-do the bluray from the new 4k scan so it looks better than the original bluray that criterion released. Getting 4k + an improved bluray is just too good to pass up
Fifteen years ago I'd have been all over this, but now doesn't make much sense. It's not 4k.

My coupon is 25% off making the final price in cart (before tax) to be $336.44.

Not too bad for 40 Criterion films and then the Criterion Closet extras.

Nice price if you don't already own many of the films. Even better than the 50% off at the expected (Tuesday?) sale at criterion.com this week.

true enough. I looked at this and supposedly the average age of these Blu rays are already 10 years old.

I guess I'm lucky on this one. Not only do I only have 1 title in this collection, I was presented with a 30% off coupon making it $314. Paying with Amazon Visa and getting 6% back for delayed delivery on Saturday ($18.84) so $295 for this set! A no-brainer buy at $7.38 per movie!

Not a $300 purchase I was expecting to make as I just spent $980 on my 85" 4k TV yesterday! Damn you SD!

I got this set in the B&N sale when it came out and I'm loving it. I wouldn't recommend buying it from B&N because my copy was beaten to hell.

Amazon might be worth a shot with the lower price, but I'd recommend buying directly from CC if physical imperfections are going to bother you (like they probably will/should if you're shelling out for a box set like this).

For subscribers to the Criterion Channel: 23 of the 40 films here are currently on the channel. So for anyone who's interested in seeing some of these films but doesn't care as much about having the physical media, the Channel is a decent option.

Non-4K collection for your 4K TV. Lucky is relative I guess

I think you're mistaken. Criterion has been mastering their releases at 4K for Blu-ray releases for a looooong time. Just a quick check of mine found that All That Jazz was a 4K remaster for a 2014 BD release when Criterion didn't start doing 4Ks until Holidays 2021. People were howling for 4K releases since they had 4K masters in the vaults for years. All they do is an HDR grade for the 4K disc and recycle the original BD release from before.

Other studios often put out 4K releases with their old BD discs so you don't even get an upgraded disc. You need to read the reviews to find out.

I don't own any of these, but since they are HD only… I will pass. 4K or better for me from now on, if available.

Clicking the coupon link says not eligible (but mentions "2025-03-13_MidAtlantic_20%_Movies & Films"), but going to the product page itself, there is a 20% off coupon.
