I've heard this is actually a pretty impressive collection that's been given a lot of care. Seems ripe for a further price decrease though.

It is; I got the original release as a gift and really enjoy it. I think that was in 2023? I still come back to it occasionally. The materials presented alongside the games (like tv ads and interviews) make it more of an interactive archive than a collection. If you've ever watched a video game history/documentary and took breaks to go play the games being covered, this is for you.

Yes, it's not haphazardly slapped together as a cash grab. It's a nice set.

Critiquing, I'm not a fan of the UI and feel its cumbersome to navigate through. Also, even though it's an impressive list of games, most of my favorites are not included.

The is how you do a collection of games. If you are interested in the history of Atari and what games were like back in the beginning this is a must buy. However two things to consider…. 1. These games have not all aged well. 2. Many of them were originally played with a paddle or spinner controller and they are just not the same without it.

Some of the new remastered games are quite fun.

Licensing. Also missing my favorite games: Raiders of the Lost Ark. And Empire Strikes Back.

Wish they would sell these separately and just charge a premium for them. That money could pay the licensing fees

They would have my money in an instant if they included Pitfall.

It is the same game, you can update to this collection for around $11.
They also updated last year's game with around 50 new games (I think) for free.

They are a cash grab company, but not with this.
