Anyone successfully washed a carbon filter? Thought carbon pellets need to be baked in oxygen free oven to vaporize contaminants in their pores
He's most likely talking about the black pre filter. Never heard of washing away pollutants in activated carbon. My fish tank would never need new carbon . I can just imagine him rinsing it out and thinking it still doing something for him.

The quality of the knockoff brands is always questionable. I've tried a few and some of the carbon filters impact airflow, causing the fan to strain or the pellets make a slight "burned" smell. I've also ran into some where the hepa filter doesn't quite fit properly.

The carbon filter is washable. This listing has two filters: carbon and hepa
That's a bs gimmick. You will ruin these if you wash them and they are cheap. All you need to do is vacuum them and put them in the sun for 3-4 hours to "recharge" them.
"A common mistake that people make with activated carbon filters is they try to reuse them. While it may seem like a cost-effective solution, carbon filters cannot be effectively washed. When charcoal filters are used, they chemically bond with airborne chemicals. This bonding cannot be undone by water, leaving the chemicals still attached to the filter. Attempting to wash a carbon filter will not only be ineffective, it can also damage the filter, rendering it useless. Therefore, it's important to replace your activated carbon filter regularly to ensure it's working efficiently."

Nope description clearly state the carbon filter not the pre filter. Pre filter is not carbon anyways
When I washed the carbon filters last year they smelled worse and I set them outside for weeks to dry out and destink.
It's not well known but you're not suppose to use tap water to rinse but instead distilled/RO water to avoid the carbon from absorbing chlorine and other minerals which makes it less effective. Silly but it tracks and definitely should let it bake in the sun to help reactivate them.

The company calling the carbon filter washable is highly misleading. The carbon filter serves two functions. Most importantly, it traps odorous molecules a they are pulled through the filters by the fan. Secondly, it also serves as a pre-filter, catching large dust particles and hair before they reach the HEPA filter. Yes, you can (and should) vacuum and wash the charcoal layer of these large particles. You can't, however, remove the small trapped odor particles. Washing it will not restore its ability to absorb more odors. Once the charcoal filter is full, it will no longer absorb odors. I would vacuum the charcoal layer, but would never wash it. Getting it wet can collapse the small pores, ruining its ability to trap more particles.
