Additional off at B&H for the higher capacity variations, as an FYI.

The amount of 1-star reviews (4TB) on B&H is concerning.

Yeah, I tend to only really check B&H as a "benchmark" of a deal, just a personal hesitation after experiences of family with it. I'm sure some folks have no issues, so I included it for reference.

It's not any better on the 2TB either on basically every review site.

Not following you. The reviews take issue with the product, not the vendor. Not to mention B&H is usually top tier as a vendor.

Ah, I misunderstood; as far as for this specific product, I've just been personally watching for deals on a scratch drive, and the Pro of this drive line was one with a decent warranty. I know that in general, portable SSDs can suffer from overheating issues with use, and can develop memory corruption when used infrequently/as "cold" storage, but otherwise can't speak to how much better or worse this one specifically is.

Crucial is generally regarded positively for their flash storage and memory, but it's also possible this specific line of devices is less reliable. The SM2320 controller used on this is also used on several similar products, which would otherwise mean potential issues with firmware or with the NAND itself, but again harder for me to speak to generally. I previously had a Sandisk Extreme Pro external ssd and didn't have issues, but later saw folks have issues with the same drive, while I used to view Samsung drives pretty favorably, but have seen articles about various lines of their drives having issues in recent years as well.

Specifically on this drive, I did start looking a bit more and am reading that the exFAT format it comes with by default has given folks issues for Macs/iOS. It looks like general recommendations for reformatting to APFS helped some people in those cases, but personally don't have a Mac so I can't speak to how much that contributes to what's experienced for failures.

I have the 4TB version of this X10 Pro. It works well. The one drawback you need to understand going into this device is that its using the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps) standard. Most devices do not support this standard, including the new Mac Mini M4 lineups. While yes Mac Mini's support Thunderbolt 4(M4) and Thunderbolt 5(M4 Pro/Max/Ultra) and USB 4. They do NOT support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps). It will default back to USB 3.2 Gen 2(10Gbps) which unfortunately cuts its performance in half from roughly 2,000MB/s down to around 1,000MB/s.

If you're looking for something like this and your system does not support this standard, the X9 Pro variant is 10Gbps and is usually cheaper on sale than the X10 Pro (Around $30 on average) since you cant take full advantage of the faster speed standard.

Barely any laptops / devices have a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 Interface. That means, most people will not get the advertised speed, but only half of it.

I used to think BH was a top tier vendor as well but years ago, I stopped purchasing from them after learning they remove negative reviews of products. I think it's been almost 5 years since I stopped buying from them. Your experience may vary.
