Alternatively, looks like there are Cheaper and NONSTOP flights from SFO to TPE for $737 on Expedia (dates may vary)

I've flown enough long haul to tell you, if SFO has nonstop at a simiar price do it. The hassle of getting to SFO will likely be less painful than that random stop, especially if you have to switch planes.

That's crazy to make this FP since its not a non stop.
When you fly international, the money saved for extra leg isn't really worth it

Unlikely, all three Taiwanese airlines (China air;ines, Eva air, and Starlux) already have direct flights between SFO and TPE.
