I just went through this whole process of picking out a new UltraWide over the past week. This is a great monitor, however, if you need to use it for productivity tasks (I'm a software engineer), then you may have issue with it's text clarity, and there are reports on reddit of it getting burn in after just a few months of productivity work. (Edit: for those unaware, the subpixels are arranged differently on an OLED displays, and it can cause text fringing issues. Basically the edge of letters and text are not as sharp, causing a bit of blurring. This can cause eye strain, especially for productivity workers using it for long periods of time. Some people definitely are more sensitive to this issue than others.)

If your primary usage is gaming, and maybe some surfing the web, it'd be an outstanding monitor.
Do you have a recommendation on a monitor that IS good for productivity tasks? In my case, I actually don't need it for gaming at all, I just want to streamline how my desk is set up. Thanks!

The Dell UltraSharp range of ultrawide's are generally seen as the consensus best bet for office / productivity work. They are fine for light gaming, but gamers aren't their target audience.

If you plan to use this monitor for work, I would avoid. I've had a nightmare experience with my monitor and Samsungs customer support is non-existent. Their policy is to repair at all costs which will be a huge inconvenience to you. The compatibility with docking stations is truly terrible. I've got a workaround via the HDMI cable but that is showing signs of failing as well. I've had a tech out 4 or so times and their troubleshooting is slow and ineffective. Do yourself a favor and buy another monitor.

I heard mixed things about this monitor and Samsung's return policies about their monitors. I also read about the issue with text fringing as well. I bought it anyway and promptly got a RMA within a week that bought me 2 more weeks to return the monitor. I found there are actually things you can do to almost eliminate the fringing on both Mac and PC. I also think the burn is an issue of older OLEDs and they warranty against it. In the end, I wound up keeping the monitor and have had no problems with it. 5K resolution spread out over 49 inches wasn't great compared to my 27 inch Mac, but was still ok. Perfect monitor? No, there are compromises, but overall worth the $650 I paid. Just do yourself a favor and review Samsung's monitor review policy so you can return it and not get stuck being forced to repair it.

If you paid $650, you probably did not get the OLED model. They have a one with the VA panel that was on sale for $650 through the same app program.

There are a bunch! Way too many. It's also very personal. I have LG C2 42", + dualup + Samsung 4k IPS 27"... And I don't game - they're all excellent for me. While many complain of OLED for text, it's complete non-issue for me and I don't notice it, unless you ask me to. However, if you believe it to bother you, just choose any 4k IPS panel and you'll be golden.

Last year's 49 OLED was on sale twice for under $700. This is NO deal and merely a regular sale price.in fact many were able to get it under $500

It was the 144Hz OLED. I honestly can't tell the difference between 144Hz and 240Hz with what I use the monitor for. I will add that the Samsung website is super wonky and with that purchase and others that I've placed through samsung.com, the price change around, and occasionally a coupon code pops up. When I called to get my RMA, they offered yet another $66 off to not return it.

lol yeah their website is terrible. The app isn't any better. It's been like that for years.

If you add a 4TB 990 Pro SSD (without heat sink) to your cart along with this monitor you get both for a total of $1197.91, so just a bit under $200 for the SSD (current EPP price is $261). You may also get a popup offer to sign up for newsletters/offers to get a $50 off $1000 code and if you haven't purchases through the app yet you can get $50 off your first in app purchase. Sometimes it's difficult for these offers to actually stick though, due to their terrible website/app. If you are lucky and the monitor (and potentially the SSD) is in stock at a Best Buy in your area you may get an offer for a $100 BB gift card if you pick up in store rather than have it shipped. This would show up at the top of the checkout page (take a screenshot as proof in case it doesn't come through).

Anyone who doesn't qualify for any of the EPP options can try to go through AAA. You need the first and last name as well as zip code of a member. https://discounts.aaa.com/home-business/samsung
