I have something similar and the doors latch closed. Mine also has doors on the sides that latch which is nice to get things out from the back without taking things out. I use mine for canned goods.

I have this exact ones. Doors are magnetic and as long as you haven't stuffed it full, stay closed. That being said, very plastic and flimsy on the tops and the top has popped off when I've tried to pick it up to move it.

Overall it has served the purpose well for the price I paid (which was the same price).

How sturdy are the bottoms, if you were to set one flat on a flat shelf? Do they have a decent reinforcing structure to accommodate some weight?

They don't seem to advertise any 'per unit/per shelf' weight capacity.

Canned goods. That's cool. So it's pretty sturdy then?

I have a similar five stack and they work fine but realistically only put one sweater in each as the magnets are not strong and the doors will open if over packed. If using for other purposes, it will not be an issue. I paid $46 for a five unit. Three might be too short unless you get multiple to stack on top of each other. Just put heavy items on the bottom so they won't fall over.

It says each one holds 40 liters, which is about 83.45 pounds per bin. Hope this helps!
40 liters is just the internal volume, which does not indicate weight capacity in any way..
