For those wondering, I've had this exact one for over 2 years now. It still works fantastic, never an issue. It's jumped a few cars and I use it all the time to blow up pool rafts, basketballs, etc etc.
there is no need to "boost" with a jumpstarter that does not use ultracapacitors.
According to many reviews, and comments in these threads (I have no firsthand experience)- there can be the need for this feature when your battery is below a certain voltage, and therefore, your jumpstarter box will not work without having and using this feature (if so equipped). It is also referred to as forced start. The battery is usually only down enough not to crank, so you usually wouln't need it. This feature overrides the box refusing to try to jumpstart your vehicle.

Regular jumpers that don't have ultracapacitors just use straight battery power, their own so once you turn them on, they use their available power to help start the car. It does not matter if the car battery is partially down, down a lot or totally empty. Ultracapacitors function slightly differently, they use the remaining battery power of the car battery, even if it is not high enough voltage to start the car. You'll see a percentage on the jumper and it goes up once it goes high enough from charging the capacitors from the car battery then the jumper will give full voltage (12) to start the car. But, if the car battery is too low to charge the capacitors something like under 9v. Then you can push the "boost" button then charges the jumper capacitors from it's own battery instead of the car battery, then you can start the car from there. I've never seen jumpers before the advent of ultra capacitors being used, that ever needed a "boost" button, usually just an on or off button. Now, maybe there is a regular lithium battery jumper out there that has a "boost" button without having capacitors.... but I've never come across one.

Edit: Many standard lithium (non-ultracapacitor) styles without this feature may not have the ability to recognize a completely dead battery or possibly not enough discharge without the boost feature to jump start your vehicle unless your vehicle's battery has a certain minimum charge.
If they have a boost/force start button, this forces it to try to jump and gives more than standard discharge to do so for very drained battery situations. If your low battery is not too low, this feature is not needed. And most of the time that is the case.

I googled the situation and It see that is not that low voltage is a safety issue. It is that it might not recognize the battery being connected to work if completely dead, or that the normal level of energy is not enough to start the vehicle. I googled the situation and It see that is not that low voltage is a safety issue. Yeah, it just seems to be an unneccessary step, kind of like creating a problem then making a "fix" to the problem you created. There would be no drawbacks I could see with the old way of doing things, just put a on/off switch, connect it, turn it on then start the vehicle. If the battery is there, low voltage or not does not change anything the vehicle still must be started. The "boost" step seems to be just a gimick.... but in capacitor based jumpers in is a true fix if there isn't enough car battery voltage to charge the boost voltage with. They might have this mechanism but at least to me seems like a marketing gimmick.
