The first showtime for this movie is on March 27th (Thursday) I combined the BOGO with discount Tuesday tickets to reduce the total price from $15 to $7 (With Cinemark Rewards Account)

Yeah movies always start the day before here too. Not 100% sure why, never bothered googling it.

I believe it's the evolution of the "midnight" showing. Actual midnight showings are rare now but new movies will come out the afternoon before. Works well for me because a lot of people don't realize this so showings tend to be emptier.

Ordered for Tuesday at Cinemark to get the $5.50 discount Tuesday ticket price. Came out to $8 total for two tickets using the promo code.

I learned that the studios get away with showing these Thursday night instead of Midnight EST because they use midnight Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) to get earlier showings in the USA.

That wouldn't make sense either though since we have showings in the afternoon on Thursdays. Like Minecraft movie comes out 4/4 but we have shows here 4/3 at 3pm CST.

Looks like Google is mixed on why but one answer just says that started as a way to build hype for movies that are supposed to be good but it's done too often now so it doesn't do anything. So they just do it early now bc it's allowed in the contracts to show it the day before the advertised release.

Which would make sense because I remember when I first noticed it I'd go so I could feel like I saw it before others but now it doesn't make a difference since it's the standard.

Traditionally, Friday was release day, unless it was a real big blockbuster like Rocky 3 or 4, and they opened on Wednesday to relieve pressure on sales. Or holiday weeks, a big(ish) movie will open on Wed. This Thursday crap is just stupid. They end up killing other movies, or refuse to schedule them for Thurs, because they don't know how they'll want to schedule the new stuff on that day.
