Here's a review summary [bikeride.com]. Most of the complaints are minor niggles that would apply to many other bikes, except for this one:

Quote :
Some experts report a three-second delay for pedal assist to kick in. Another notes a delay of around one second when first applying throttle.
That would make for a pretty annoying ride. 3s is a long time, especially when you're going uphill.

I'll also note that with a 28mph limit, that makes this a class 3 bike, which is illegal on bike paths in many states.

I'm asking purely out of curiosity and I'm not trying to start arguments as I just want to know. (Sad I have to say this these days)

Do they have like a list of bikes or are there some sort of stickers on the bike itself? How would they know exactly that it's a class 3? Im asking because someone asked me to watch deals for them and they know less than I do. They were going to take it road tripping/camping and use it to get around but I'm nervous to recommend something that could potentially get them in trouble. Also do they just like yell at you or are we talking fines if they mess up and take it somewhere they aren't supposed to?

For a no-name bike, this is over-priced for these specs. I'd recommend going with this one; it's lighter and has a larger battery for $250 less: https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/t/18192031

Note that with either of these bikes, you'll probably be on your own for maintenance as bike shops generally won't work on these cheap ebikes. For basic maintenance, this shouldn't be a problem if you know what you're doing or are willing to learn. Probably out of luck if something like the motor dies, unless you can find a generic replacement part.

I don't know. But on the Reddit ebike forum, there have been claims from users in certain states of receiving tickets or having their bikes confiscated.

That other bike does not have hydraulic brakes. I think the appeal of this one is that being sold by Best Buy, it gets a shred of legitimacy and (probably) easy returns. But I don't know if that's worth $250.

Yeah, I edited my comment, was mistaken on the brakes. Still, it's a much better deal imo. Aside from the illusion of quality that comes with a recognizable retailer, I don't think there's any ACTUAL advantage to buying from Best Buy, other than perhaps being able to return it without shipping, if necessary.

Wow dang.. I am kind of nervous to keep helping this person then. I was going to suggest this bike but hell if they can get in trouble they might get upset with me for it. Every trail I've ever seen/been to it was like empty besides the occasional rider so I always wondered how serious it was taken.

Like everything, it depends on where you are and what you are doing.

I've got an electric dirt bike I ride on city trails, right next to the police station. They don't care.

Now if I was speeding on trails and being a jerk then I would expect them to care and do something about it.

With the power of these bikes it is easy to get carried away and go faster than you intend, and I'll bet a lot of kids and young adults with them don't have the restraint to be respectful, and thus, you get in trouble. Lots of YouTubers showing off just exactly to get in trouble.

Re; for getting these from bestbuy, it's the return policy for a bad bike. Know there is zero support after the return policy.

Edit: oh and. Hydraulic shimano brakes are cheap.

In my municipality it also makes it illegal on any road of 35mph and up.

Class I is pedal assist only and under 20mph, class II adds throttle, pedaling not required and under 20mph, class III is class II but up to 28mph.

You'd have to check local laws to be certain. I've typically seen class I gets treated like a normal pedal bike and is probably the safest recommendation.
