This is a pre-emergent product to help prevent germination of weeds especially crabgrass. You put this down right when the ground temp averages 50 degrees. In late spring you can use the post emergent weed killers for dandelions and other broadleaf weeds. Don't overseed in the spring, wait until fall

Save your money and buy better stuff from your local turf farm/landscape company. I can get the Andersons with barricade pre-e for $40 for a 50lb bag and that's regular price. Scott's is overpriced.

Lowes has same toss in for $2 less. The buy one get one is also less coverage. Weed and feed is 4,000 sq ft. And they really don't work together. Wish it was a true bogo

What am I missing, Lowes doesn't apply the $20.00 off so buying from them is $20.00 higher than HD, although you do get 3 bags (I am buying 3) of weed & feed free. But as a true SDer, I want the $20.00 AND 3 bags free LMAO

To build on what someone else said, this is early spring application, you can't seed with it because the "haltz preventer" will not let the seeds germinate, along with certain weeds. If you're sticking with the Scott's lineup, you'd then put down Weed 'n Feed about 5 weeks later, then Summer guard, then a general application of Turfbuilder fertilizer, then Winterguard in fall. All spaced out 5-6 weeks or so. Some will say certain fertilizers are less effective than others, to use sprays, or use other methods entirely. Having done the full Scott's treatment regime for several years, it's a decent no brainer system. Grab a broadcast spreader and you're good to go. If your lawn is in rough shape it could take a few years of consistent fertilizing, but it'll be in acceptable/respectable shape eventually.

I used this in January thinking it will prevent weeds germination.But I got ton of blue grass and other weeds germinated in Feb/March.

Does it only work for crabgrass ?
