None of this kids stuff is worth the cost. Just get them a refurb paperwhite when it's on sale. Every kid should have a paperwhite and a library card but no need to spend this much. You can buy them a refurb and a back up one for way less than this when they go on sale.

Amazon did have a kids version of the paperwhite with case for about $100 (years ago). I bought it for myself and it's great for what it is. Personally, I think the color ones or the more advanced Kindles are overpriced and you're better off with a cheaper, way faster Kindle Fire.
