GN tested the AGS850 and found that it didn't actually meet the gold rating for that PSU.
It only takes 1 time seeing sparks fly out of the back of your PC and onto carpet for that to really sink in. And it was an Antec model for me that came with the Antec Atlas 550 case I was using at the time.

So no I wouldn't go as far as to say hundred thousand. But your point remains.

Probably a good place to start, and then compare whatever model to the link in the first comment. If it's below A or B tier, I'd keep looking.
If your setup can run on 750 watts or less, you can get a high quality PSU for under $100. 850 is possible on sale. If you need over 1000 watts, you're usually at the $200-250 range.
