The official QNAP store has the same prices. Also, they don't charge sales tax (at least for Illinois residents).

If you need a [new] NAS right now, these are fantastic boxes and they can all run QuTS Hero and take more than the spec'd 16GB RAM by Intel (you'll want at least 32GB if you use QuTS Hero). That said, if you don't need a new NAS right now, I'd wait till they are updated to Nxxx CPUs, although the NAS landscape is slow moving from the quality brands — Synology is the top tier brand with QNAP being a medium-distance 2nd, while everyone else is a very distant 3rd. This makes sense as you want substantial R&D for a NAS which is supposed to be Rock-solid. My DS918+ is going strong and never missed a beat in years, when it comes time to replace I will again pay a bit more for either a Synology or one of these.

Another option is to roll your own, there are quality cases and motherboards (which already have N305/N355 CPUs) that are specifically made for NAS use.

These have been out for a while now... I wonder if this sale is clearing out for new ones ?
