Yesterday I filed me and two of my kids taxes with TaxfreeUSA. It was easy and fast and it did not cost me anything. I will not go back to H&R or Turbotax again.

Deluxe has done Schedule C in the past and I bet it hasn't changed. The marketing is very deceptive - it's hard to find a real list of what deluxe does and they imply that you need premium for things that you don't. In addition, it's easy to confuse the online capabilities vs the desktop/download version, which are totally different.

Every year, I buy this in Dec/Jan and each year the price became cheaper in Feb. People kept saying to hold til Feb for the biggest discounts. Well, I held this year and the prices are going up instead of down. Just my luck.

Yes, you can import from a H&R Block or TurboTax PDF. Similar to my experience switching from TT to HRB and back, I would double check that all the carryover credits are transferred properly because the import is not perfect. Usually names, SSN, addresses and things like that come over without any problems. And once you get everything in the system, it will obviously carryover easily for next year.

As far as investments, the one big knock on FTUSA (and basically all software besides TT/HRB) is that it doesn't import 1099s from brokerages. You can mitigate this issue by reporting consolidated short and long term capital gains rather than every single trade. This is already done for you on your 1099 form and the IRS gets the full 1099 with all the details anyway.

I was holding out for a H&R Block deal as I have been using them for the past 5 years. I've heard many people recommend FreeTaxUSA and I decided to give it a try. It worked just fine. You'll have to do slightly more work inputting data since it does not import from financial institutions/payroll providers. But at a cost of $14.99 to e-file both federal and state, it can't be beat.
