As someone who is dealing with (non-subterranean) termites - even though I had stakes - can't stress enough to have as many defenses in place as possible.

I'm a licensed private applicator* in my state for restricted label stuff like this*. That is, my state has in addition to commercial applicators, a course one can take to become a private applicator; if you produce agricultural commodities in any form.

This kit seems more expensive than the annual termite guy coming out, or pretty similar. I'd expect DIY to be a bit cheaper…

The termite bait stations should be used as a monitoring tool- where you check them every 6 months to see if there is termite activity in the vicinity of the home and take steps to stop termites from getting closer to you home. They won't help as much with reducing termite destruction if there is already an infestation around. You also don't need the full kit after the first install, just the replacement bait boxes-

For long term treatment, termidor is the best option. It requires creating a trench along the perimeter of your home and pouring the diluted solution so that it is absorbed along the periphery. It requires reapplication once every 6-8 years.

Don't buy this Spectracide product, its a waste of money in my opinion. The card board inside can get wet and pop up the indicator.

I use the advance bait stations with the Trelona Compressed Termite Bait. I also trench with termidor SC around the house every 5 years or so.

I think spraying the perimeter of your home with Taurus SC [diypestcontrol.com] might work better than Spectracide. From personal experience, I know it worked amazingly well for ants when I moved into my home 8 years ago, which was infested with them. Nothing over-the-counter or retail worked for me besides Taurus SC.

I posted a more detailed explanation about this around two months ago. I can't recommend Taurus SC enough—it literally made my home livable and comfortable by eliminating the monstrous ant infestation I had. The scourge was probably caused by the home being vacant for a few years, along with an apple tree planted less than 15 feet from the house.

These are a borderline scam. They do nothing but give a false sense of protection. Termites can (and will) pass right by these, may or may not even consume the cardboard. That cardboard and spring often pop because of normal wear/moisture. Do research before waiting money on these. Better off getting your home sprayed.

I watched an old retired termite guy talk about treatment options and how basically the pro industry is scare tactics, and he said using this every year is the best low-effort option: https://www.amazon.com/BIOADVANCE...B000RUIJYM since they're granules that are watered into the soil

I installed these last year. within a few weeks the orange "indicators" started poping up all over the place. upon inspection, there was zero evidence of termites or anything else eating the bait, the bait was untouched.

Another issue I've been told about perimeter stakes is that they attract termites towards the house. I can see the argument both ways - they caught termites that were already targeting to the house VS they attracted them to the stakes.

These jokers can live 20ft deep in the ground. I'd say keeping rotted wood, stumps, debris, overall moistness away from the house and seasonal inspection is good. I also perimeter spray termidor for ant control. Maybe it saturates enough among the foundation as well.
