I've noticed that the few stray/feral cats I feed are not particularly enthusiastic about eating Friskies Gravy or Shreds, but they consume Friskies Pate vigorously. Based on this anecdotal evidence, I'm inferring that pate varieties of inexpensive cat food are more nutritious and palatable, as the pate isn't filled with corn, wheat gluten, and oils to create the gravy, as MrTrippySmiles mentioned. Thanks to them as well for the insightful advice.
