I'm going to guess that you haven't been watching coffee prices. The days of $3.50-$4.00 a pound coffee deals are pretty much over. Prices are up across the board, from Community to Great Value to Starbucks, by 20-30% over the last month or so.

Yeah even Costco's Supremo ground coffee is over $5lb now.

For those interested, Amazon also has Community Breakfast Blend on sale for $4.60 per pound (4 pounds for $18.42). Far from the best historic price, but one of the best prices currently available on ground coffee.

I had community and thought it was great. Then I had some that was weak and terrible. Turns out the good stuff was this and the bad stuff was the breakfast blend. We thought this was comparable to Costco's ground. not sure about getting it near best buy date though.

I drank Community Dark Roast for decades and long before it was available anywhere outside of Louisiana/Southern Mississippi. It was the #1 staple of nearly every Louisianian. It's a 100 year old local family owned business that was handed off through about 4 generations of the same family (the Saurage family).

However as years progressed after the recent generations of the younger family owners/management took over, roughly just prior to year 2000, the quality went downhill and getting a batch that wasn't bitter was a Herculean challenge.
That was when I stopped buying it.
