This or the KTC 24" for about the same price? Is the extra 3" worth it or will picture quality be better on the 24"

My 2 cents:
24" would be better for office work for better text clarity, and it takes up less desk space in case you want to fit another monitor on your desk for multitasking.
27" would be better if your main use case is watching videos / gaming, where text clarity is not as important and the larger screen would add to immersion.

Getting this for my son that games. Mostly Fortnite and Minecraft so nothing super data heavy. For the price, I hope this one does well.

code 05DMKTC38 takes $4.67 off the 24" if you'd prefer that one

How about 27" for office work using google sheet and email?

personally, if I were going 27" for office work, I would get a QHD panel (1440p).
however, if your eyesight isn't great and you have to scale up the UI and make everything big anyway, then I suppose it might not matter as much. it looks like there is one available for $100 (100hz as opposed to the 180hz in the original post, but for office work, who cares):

KTC makes decent budget hardware, although personally I would rather have 1440p and lower refresh rate at that size, even for gaming - the 100Hz 1440p by the same company should be available at $100 or so fairly regularly.

I bought this before Xmas when it was cheaper than this. For the price it's great a fantastic deal. I paired it with an old Nvidia 1060 6gb system and it's perfect for some light gaming. Unless you're super picky about all that marketing BS this is a decent monitor, I would get it again, if that means anything. I haven't noticed any problems with text either like some other 'gaming' monitors.
