Oh yes they are.

Non-inverters are on and off machines. They always draw the maximum current. Either they are on or off. Every time the compressor turns on, it also affects other appliances because they have to use huge current to kick start the compressor. They maintain the desired temperature by turning off and on. No way to tell the compressor to just run at 25% to maintain desired temperature.

On the other hand, the inverter compressor versions is adjustable. It can draw as low as 100w just to maintain the desired temperature setting. I have this AC but with heater and by average, it draws 200-400w blowing just the right amount of cold air. If it's too hot, or you put it to maximum compressor speed and full fan speed, it can draw up to 1300w.

Yes I bought it and the sound noise is great. Sounds just like a fan. Night and day compared to my standard single hose condenser unit

These are pretty good units. Once summer really hits it'll be hard to find any like this for less than $450-500. We have an older house with casement windows so regular window AC units won't work (otherwise I'd go with those) so we have 4 of these - one is branded as Toshiba, one as Danby, two as Medea. They all work with the Medea smart phone app since they're basically the same despite some cosmetic and feature differences. I've bought all of them when they were on sale near the end of the season.

We plan to eventually get mini-splits installed, that will be a slightly more involved project since we need to get through two layers of brick and my wife is not too wild about it - the outer brick is a special pattern made by a local company that closed up shop over a decade ago so we can no longer get it if we make any mistakes or want to close up the hole later.

Can someone recommend the best way to fit this model to my 90" tall sliding glass doors during the turnover period for our Hvac (easily put up and remove at will)?

Run the included guide as far as you can and tape cardboard above it to help keep the bugs out. That's the only way I can think of. I don't believe they make a bigger window insert.

Your comment suggests this is a single hose unit and a scam. It is misleading and given it's the first comment I would recommend editing it to be more clear.
Done.

FYI this is a dual hose unit, but in one hose. It has an exhaust hose inside the intake hose. It should also come with an exhaust divider plate to deflect the exhaust away from the intake.

This "technology" is called DUO. Their marketing name.

Since these are dual hose, can I expect the same cooling power as a 12k window unit, or will the portables always have lower output by their nature?
it will always have less cooling by their nature as the motor and pump are located inside the room instead of outside. Yes the dual hoses exhaust air out, but there is still heat being released from the unit itself that goes into the room. The mini splits, and U window units because they are outside that released heat not from the exhaust will be released outside. So the most efficient location is the condenser and motor located completely outside such as a mini split, next would be the u window units, then the window units then like this unit, inside but dual hose, and the very worst in efficiency would be the inside single hose units. Of course the non inverter versions of any of these units will be less efficient than the inverter versions. At least this is my understanding, but I'm not a pro so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Yes, it is, OP does mention that.

Avoid single hose ones.
Oh nice, you finally see the light that you are wrong.... meanwhile you still downvoted my reply to you correcting your wrong post. The guy that was wrong downvotes the guy that was right.... typical. Don't you have a conscience, a sense of right and wrong ?

Uh, I didn't downvote you. And I eventually fine-tuned my reply. If someone has an issue with your replies you will need to find them elsewhere.

Just ordered one! I was looking at the same one at Costco and it's way more expensive. Trying to cool a 2 car garage in the Texas heat.

I'm in for one. I hope this is clean as the Dyson refurbished I got from Walmart a couple years ago. The 90 day warranty takes some risk off the table.

Well, if that is truly the case, and I've falsely accused you, my apologies. You did fine tune your reply, as I have just fine tuned my false accusation, assuming what you said is correct.

NO WARRANTY - only 90 day return. Don't expect any warranty extension from VISA, Chase or AMEX, because this comes with NO manufacture's warranty. Deal killer for me...

that is a big deal killer. These things take up a lot of room inside too.

You can get it on eBay for about $25 more, but it comes with the 2-year eBay warranty.
