Great deal hate the shipping charge. Don't listen to the hate I paid 650 for mine in a new build had a 3090 and this is leaps and bounds better it feels faster and hard to explain not a native crazy 4k card but eats up my ultra wide anything I throw at it. The way I see it it's nvida if it's close to Msrp and you need one. Go for it you can always sell and make at least 70% ish back IMO

Bought the MSI variation of this card a few days ago for my nephews first ever build. Is it better just to pay the extra $50 for a 9070 xt if I were to be able to get it at MSRP? His monitor is free sync.

Without a doubt, yes. 9070 xt is much harder to come by at msrp, but if you are able to find one it is well worth the extra $50.

If the 7800 GTX was supposed to be the flagship of that generation then we should be comparing it to the 5090 at 2k today, should we not? So it's a 100% increase?
Exactly!

agreed. but that happened this year. last year's top performer 4090 was $1k, which means they didn't seem to change the price much for a long time.. then AI happened.

Bit the bullet. Went from a 4070S to 9070 XT and now back down to a 5070. CUDA is just too ubiquitous to pass up unfortunately.

This is gamer hate ha if you do any productivity work cuda is a must.

I'm a non standard gamer where I play pc on tv with a controller like console. I truly don't notice a difference on generated frames and the 5070 seems to still be way better at it in cutting edge games like Wukong that I think will see more of. Just wished they'd offered 16gb at this price and itd be a great value.

In fact Intel might be a better choice than AMD at productivity. I use the arc a770 for encoding and llms. have a 6700xt and just can't really do that stuff well but great at gaming.

yes, 5070 is at most barely better than a 4070 super. The 9070XT is on part with the $750 MSRP 5070Ti

You can kind of get away with using OpenCL on AMD cards for general GPU compute at the cost of a 30-50% performance malus compared to the CUDA equivalent card. But it really starts to fall apart when for rendering and models like you said. ROCm is just so far behind CUDA you can't even really compare the two.

Anyone know how this differs from the other MSI 5070 from a few days ago? Looks like that series (Shadow) was a little fancier than this series (Ventus) on some previous models. But these have identical prices and even the marketing stuff on the MSI site calls out the exact same things (fans, baseplate, fuses, etc.). Is the difference just styling?
