I'v never done efile. Didn't know there were separate codes. Thanks. Learned something new.
I'm still confused. Do you have Block installed? Or do you still need need a software package to fill out and file your return?

If you buy Block you get five federal e-file codes with it. If you use them up and do need another ask someone for e-file code, people are sharing and trading them. Those efile codes will only work in the Block software as far as I know and you can not use them to efile with some other software or service. The license code is to install and use the Block software is a different thing.

On the side note, is it really worth the time to go 4 different locations for the option when freetaxusa is possibly $14.99 max anyway? Time value kills the deal savings.

Looks like I need the software package.

I found one in Illinois.

Out of 3 stores, one didn't have any, one had them but it looked like they pulled the 17.99 tags off and it was discounted to 50.99, and one had them at 17.99

Still 50.99 in NY. I wonder when they'll discount it down

What you say is disingenuous. See the list below The place is called FreeTaxUSA($15) and right off the bat you find out you have to pay $15 for state. You have no option to print state and you must pay them to efile for you.

You then may have to pay extra to get the most basic features that come in Block for free.

You also do not count that your it $15 per return and that with FreeTaxUSA($15) you would have to pay again per each new return and for any extra features you might need. A family of five can file can have all their taxes done for $4 per return if they caught Block on sale at $20. They would have to pay $75 to FreeTaxUSA plus for any extra features each might need. A husband and wife filing separately has to pay twice and pay $30 to do two returns with Block it is $10 per.

To get the basics that come with Block it would cost me $54 extra on top of the $15 for a total of $69

Who exactly is the terrible, immoral, shady and greedy company?

List of upsells in FreeTaxUSA

I have no problem with anyone that wants to share FreeTaxUSA but if it is such a good deal maybe they should put it in its own deal and disclose all the upsells and let the SD community decide. The bottom line is that you are comparing a regular price low tier product to a sale price of a more feature rich product.

The constant shilling everyone does for them clutters up every tax deal and they are not any nobler or more moral than any other company. If you criteria is "greedy" company that does not upsell, if you were honest with yourself you would have to decline FreeTaxUSA as well as Block.

At least if you are going to recommend them do it in an honest manner and disclose the extra fees and upsells and do not act like they are some morally pure or nobler big corporation. From all appearances they seem to like their money and charge an awful lot for the most basic of features. I warn of the upsells when I recommend Block you deceive and tell us that FreetaxUSA($15) has none. That is the problem I have with all the FreeTaxUSA shilling besides the fact that it should be in its own deal and not filling threads where people are trying to get information in about the product that is in the deal.
This is some unhinged commentary. You're trying too hard to defend HRBlock despite the fact we all know it's full of shady upsells. FreeTaxUSA is completely free and $15 to state efile. That includes ALL the forms HRBlock only includes on higher tier options (not included on this deal). Why even lie in 1000 words?

You seem to be referencing Block online. The Deluxe software versions has none of limitations you mention and it is why I consider it a deal. It has all the forms you need to do very complex tax returns unless you are true corporation. I have multiple businesses and just about any type of account, income, deduction, write off or investment you can imagine and the product in this deal does it all. May taxes are going to be filed for the $20 I spent on the Block software and I do not have to pay for anything else.

Where you are coming from is just what I warn of. You throw an accusation at me and the software that is completely false due to your own confusion. The people that are on a mission to trash Block and do not give real comparisons have misinformed and confused you terribly. They have you thinking the software in this deal is the same as an online version. That is not not true as I explained above and here you are repeating the falsehood.

I have never once in my life recommended Block online to anyone or any online tax service to anyone as they are money traps they all have the upsells like TaxFreUSA and Block Online have.

I have nothing to defend with Block or FreeTaxUSA . I could care less about one or the other and only speak of what value I can get out of them. I just do not see it with Freetax and the fist big downer is that my tax data is not local to me and the price is for only one set of returns.

My comments are a response to the shils for FreetaxUSA that clutter up each and every deal thread and confuse things all to to hell. I wonder why thy come in with strong and rage filled feelings and righteous condemnation and say we must completely shun and damn a company like Block if they upsell yet tell us to head over to FreeTaxUSA that does the same exact thing and even worse with upsells for the ability to get some help on the phone. They tell everyone to gladly hand TaxFreeUSA our money without knowing what you are getting onto like they are fighting for the taxpayer rights or something. Something just doesn't make sense with that premise. It seems more like pure blatant shilling to me

Neither company does anything particularly wrong, illegal or beyond the pale of standard business practices but I will say I do find FreeTaxUSA to be the bit more weaselly than the installed software Block. Just the name game is weird and off-putting for me.

I find all the online services to be nasty and ripoff and of little value including Blocks and FreeTaxUSA. That is why I so strongly recommend a real software package. It has fixed known costs and I can advise anyone how to file their taxes for the price seen. You can not do that when you send someone off to the online world where they will find catches galore. I'd advise everyone to stay away from Block online as strongly as I do to stay away from TaxFreeUSA unless you are completely aware of what you are getting.

If people are going to recommend FreeTaxUSA as a courtesy they could list what you lose and list what extras may or will cost you. Like I said to get the basics I get in Block it would cost $69 at FreeTaxUSA and I could only do one return set. I do not see the value in that in feature to feature comparison.

If you ever wonder why none of the Freetax people ever post a deal for it, it is because FreeTaxUSA gives you a low tier $15 product for $15 and it is not a deal. Try postinthat up and se what response you get. If you need phone support that will jump to $65 if you need an amended return add another $15 you are at $80 and who knows they may raise prices on that. With Block depending when you bought you can get a $50 for $20 and a much more powerful proct that you own on your own computer.

With all that being said I still have and do at times recommend FreeTaxUSA to people and I just did it today for someone. It is not me that asks and tell people to exclude one product form consideration it is the FreeTaxUSA shills that do that like they have no downsides or upsells

Another vote for freetaxusa. I checked its numbers for my return vs the turbotax premium copy Fidelity gave me (I have used H&R Block for last 6-8 years), the numbers were the exact same at the end for federal and freetaxusa was actually easier to use questions/guidance wise imo. Turbotax was nicer with the importing of all my statements but that was about it. Dont be afraid of using freetaxusa.

How did you get a free copy from Fidelity ?

Come on, this is slickdeals, where people will drive 100 miles out of the way to save 2 cents a gallon on gasoline (and buy 15 gas cans on the way to fill them all up and have gas stored for the next 6 months.)

There's another thread on this. The criteria are not known and inconsistent. Neither I nor my wife have ever had this offer, despite having multiple brokerage and retirement accounts with them. We are not managed and do not trade frequently, so maybe that's why. Check the other thread for more.
