Have you seen the market lately?

These are actually very competitive prices if you need one today.

Is it where we'd like them to be? Of course not. But that's capitalism for you.

What consumers need to do is support the less common brands so we get some more competition. Unfortunately, those brands get shat on by SD purists.

Looks like a bunch of normal prices to me. They still all look inflated to me. I'm holding out for $200 4tb nvme, gen 3/4.

Either way, thank you OP for showing awareness for World backup day. Repped.

This is awful. Who cares if that's the going rate; it's the going rate because people buy it at these ridiculous prices.

Exactly. I bought like 4 2tb drives a couple years back when they were all below $90. Don't need any more until 4tb get below $200.

The 990 Pro does beat out the SN850x by a bit on synthetic benchmarks but these are the two best Gen 4 SSDs. In real world usage you probably wouldn't notice the difference between them.

Whatever you do, stay away from PNY. I bought 4 drives. One failed after 6 months. Two more failed a few months after that.

There's currently a massive glut of NAND chips used in SSDs and DRAM combined with the fact that china's YMTC is now a major player in the game along with Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron and Kioxia. Prices will be diving for the next year or two if we don't hit a recession. With one maybe even longer. The bust cycle is here which is good for consumers.

Maybe we really will get those cheap 128TB SSDs Samsung said would be arriving shortly in 2016.
