This looks like a pretty good deal if you want a more recognizable brand name and/or to purchase from a typical retailer. If you don't mind ordering from AliExpress, you can get switches with similar specs for $28 or an 8+1 port for $38. They also have similar products as managed switches for $36 and $46 respectively.

I got a managed 8+1 port switch from there with the brand name HORACO. It has a few (virtual) rough edges, but it has worked fine for me so far.

Slickdeals is a hilarious place to shop for switches. Every time a budget TP-Link switch comes up here, I see a bunch of people surface to complain about their firmware security concerns poor long-term updates.

But then, if a more reputable brand like TRENDnet is posted, I see people recommend the cheapest crap on AliExpress, with improvised brand names of alphabet soup.

So which is it, people? Do we trust cheap Chinese switches or not? You can't throw TP-Link under the bus while simultaneously recommending HORACO! Admittedly, it's probably two different groups of people with these conflicting viewpoints, but it's funny how consistently I see them here, and how they never seem to argue with each other directly.

This looks like a pretty good deal if you want a more recognizable brand name and/or to purchase from a typical retailer. If you don't mind ordering from AliExpress, you can get switches with similar specs for $28 or an 8+1 port for $38. They also have similar products as managed switches for $36 and $46 respectively.

I got a managed 8+1 port switch from there with the brand name HORACO. It has a few (virtual) rough edges, but it has worked fine for me so far.

Yes, and you can also get SFP+ integrated cables (SFP+ passive modules on both ends hard molded to OM2 fiber). 15ft to 20ft is $10 and you get 10GB passive SFP+ modules on both ends! Cheaper than 1 SFP+ module!

There are plenty of these as no-name switches for around $30. I have a few different ones saved in my Amazon cart so I can watch for coupons.

I ordered one on aliexpress, same specs as this trendnet. The 10G ports were bunk. I'm using it now as a 4 port 2.5G switch. I don't really need the sfp+ ports so I kept it but I'd definitely jump on this deal instead if I didn't already have one. My qnap switch, also same specs, works just fine on SFP+ and 2.5G.

I also got 3x of those 8+2 (2.5/10Gb) China switches for $30 each (via Ali), and only need the SFPs to handle 2.5Gb, but if I were worried about some combination of reliability and security, I'd obviously be looking elsewhere.

Unfortunately, if you want to get network equipment that's not made in China, you're going to spend a lot of time searching and for the most part you'll be out of luck.

Not defending anyone but the TP-Link issues brought up and things people are concerned with are their consumer firewall/routers, things on the EDGE of your network providing security, not their LAN switches. You are trying to compare apples to oranges. Those TP Link complaints are totally justified in my opinion.

"Which is it?" Your thinking is simplistic and wishful if you believe all the individual opinions will turn into one convenient, collective, opinion, served up for your convenient criticism. Each person who expressed their opinion represented themselves and only themselves. While you may be trying to Mr. Spock this and confront everyone with the apparent contradictory logic of the masses you have observed, it is you who are irrationally and illogically trying to address everyone's individual opinion, as if you can simply take the average.

In any case, I got this switch from AliExpress recently:

It's actually branded and the brand actually has a website (a step up from the truly generic ones).

I liked it so much that I ended up getting two more switches from that brand, and it's all been working great, both the 2.5G ethernet ports and the 10G SFP+ ports (I grabbed a used passive SFP+ DAC from eBay).
