Check recently reviewed products. A lot of them are the 8TB failures

Seems like it might be a problem with a third party seller improperly packing them for the shipping process (according to some comments). The drive itself is solid, bought three of these last year in April when they hit all time low $109.99 for like one day. Had no issues whatsoever with any of them. It's a good price, and I wouldn't mind having a few more at this price point, but I'd say the risk is too high for my taste with this particular sale.

Bought 2 of these in June 2024 from Newegg at $100 each after a discount code. Despite all the gloom and doom about Newegg's poor HDD shipping, mine arrived shrink wrapped in full retail packaging, and have been humming along nicely in my home server in the WIndows "Storage Spaces" version of RAID1.

I did way too much research when I picked this drive up last year. Read/write are over 200mbps. Super impressive. Huge cache makes this drive nearly instantaneous with files under 1gb. This is a high quality CMR drive that should be listed as a WD red honestly. I ran a surface scan when I got it, no issues. Loaded 4tb of movies without an issue. The drive stays very cool.

Prices are permanently up now can't compare. 70 dollar 12TB refurb drives are a thing of the past.

I don't like the fact that that it's 5640 RPMs. I'd rather buy a slightly slower 5400 RPM drive than have a such a ridiculous number on my hard drive. I would have even been okay with 5600 RPM, but that extra 40 RPMs would bother me too much every time I used my computer.
You must have some ridiculous OCD or something. I just use the drives to hold data and enjoy the fact that they are quiet and stay cool. I can't imagine obsessing over the RPM number as opposed to the important things that matter such as the performance and longevity of the drives.
